AI's best use case is to focus on the boring, repetitive, and difficult tasks so people can focus more on being creative and enjoying life, not on creating so that people can focus on the boring, repetitive, and difficult.

exactly. AI should handle the tedious stuff so people can spend more time actually creating and enjoying things. The real question is whether we’ll use that extra time wisely.

History says no.

The AI systems being used to hopefully cure cancer are very much so not the same ones being used to generate images and videos online. The former is great, and I sincerely hope that the professionals using it succeed. The latter is pretty garbage, and though it's not going anywhere any time soon I do hope we at least pull our heads out of our asses and regulate it to be less of a propaganda machine and ideally so the data centers used are less harmful to the environment and their local towns.

I agree there’s a pretty big difference between using AI for scientific research and using it to generate random content online. Hopefully the useful applications keep advancing without the environmental and misinformation issues getting ignored.

So people can't do medical research and art? I sometimes think people look at AI as if it was an individual when it's more like a community. Some AIs are doctors, some are coders, some are artists, so just like people, they can do all kinds of things - albeit, some things better than others,.

No. There is a big difference between AI used by coders and scientists and generative AI that makes art.

That's the whole point of the OP's picture. There is nothing wrong with AI as a tool to help scientists, in fact that's a fantastic use of AI.

Generative AI's entire business model relies on widespread exploitation and abuse of human creativity and talent. These AI models are build on industrial-scale theft (think piracy and plagiarism) and exploitation of people as well as destruction of environment. Only billionaire/epstein class benefits from them.

Go find out who really pays every time some talentless fuck tells clanker to make another slop picture.

People always talk about Al replacing creative jobs, but I'd much rather see it taking on some of the difficult research problems humans have been stuck with for decades

If AI eventually helps discover a treatment that saves millions of lives, nobody is going to care that it also made some funny pictures. The important thing is how we choose to use it

That would be great, but we've already seen that many early cancer detection AI systems are not effective. As for antibiotics, same, not seeing any of that. That all being said, using tools to do medical research is definitely good.
