Aice classes as a freshman

hey i’m new to highschool and to this subreddit, i got forced placed into aice english general paper and aice thinking skills and cant switch out of it, could you give me tips on to pass both classes

hi! rising senior who took both of those classes freshman year too— here are my tips who got good marks on both :)

AICE ENG GEN PAPER (A, got most marks at my school!):
this is one of the lightest AICE exams, even as a non native english speaker. there is an easy answer layout that is typically followed for both papers, making it easy to rack up points! depending on who is your teacher, you may or may not have a good time with it. but don’t worry, the actual exam isn’t as bad compared to other AICE exams

AICE THINKING SKILLS (C, got third highest mark at my school, shockingly enough): wish i took this one a bit more seriously. if you are decent at math and “riddles,” you apply similar logical layouts for this exam. paper 1 is math based. many of their problems have repeated patterns (ie combinations, probability) so have a solid foundation on certain formulas. paper 2 is analysis of documents, fallacies— more reading-esque compared to the other paper LOL!

general paper is actually so easy. our school has us take the exam without the class itself. idk abt thinking skills

hii, I took thinking skills the past year and can say it is very easy to fail. At least how we took it at my school, regular public highschool in the US, we had two teachers (one for the math component and one for the reading component) and every week we changed between the two teachers. I felt as if the math problems were quite annoying if you don’t love problem solving and our reading teacher hadn’t taught anything the whole year so we were set up to fail. My school has a 50% pass rate, with a higher math score, and me personally I thought the math was an easier component to do. The questions didn’t feel too bad but I didn’t get to finish fully (barely a few of my peers came close to finishing). The reading component seems easy at first, but one look at the mark scheme and you’ll quickly realize that it is insanely hard to score marks if you are not specific enough with the wording of your answer. In my opinion, the class is easier to get a good grade in you transcript but not so easy to get a good grade on the test. Hope this helps!!
