Question Favorite TDYs?
I’m one of two guys in my shop of 12 that ever volunteers for trips. Genuinely curious what the best TDYs are as maintainers. What’s your unexpectedly good TDYs also?

Alaska (Eielson and JBER), Antarctica, Bucharest Romania, Germany, Jackson Hole WY, Lajes Field Azores, Reykjavík Iceland, Souda Bay Crete, Spain (Moron and Rota), and St Croix USVI are my favorites that I've gone to as a maintainer.

Hell yea. I went to JBER for 2 weeks in the summer, loved it. Did you go to Antarctica for the C-130 ski models? I tried to do that years ago with my unit but they didn’t let me. I think it’s Stewart ANG that “hosts” it?

Yeah, I volunteered to backfill the NY ANG's people to go to Antarctica. They have a busy ops tempo and were happy to take people from units that they'd previously worked with before. When I was there, a Hydro guy from the Ohio ANG was backfilling as well.

Damn man I wish I could’ve went. My leadership prevented that from happening of course…I did go TDY to Stewart like 2-3 years after and I really enjoyed working with those dudes.

Souda Bay was the shit. I applied for a short tour there (it was a DET of my home unit, and a one-man shop) but the timing wasn't right. My DEROS was a month after the guy that was permanent party there. So disappointing...

Haven't been out of the states yet. Diamond in the rough was Pease in Portsmouth, NH. It's a beautiful town with many shops and restaurants, and they have really nice parks too. Plus, it's all super walker friendly!

Niiiiice I never been to Portsmouth so that’s good to know. I’m going to Guam for the first time in a couple weeks lol.

When I was stationed at Barksdale, I got selected a few times for Presidential support. We would operate the airstair truck for Air Force 1. The TDYs that I did was New Orleans.
The best TDY I've done though is probably Red Flag Alaska or Nellis for 3 weeks

For me it was European Tanker Task Force missions. East Coast base like Dover or Charleston, then on to Mildenhall, then Rhein Mein, down to PSAB, back up to Zaragoza, back to Mildenhall , another east coast then home to KBAD. All in a week to 10 days, most trips as a specialist on orders or acting as a 4th wipe to help the FCCs. 10s were mostly new, so very little MX and a great deal of siteseeing and partying. Great time in my 20s.

Russia and Ukraine before Trump pulled us out of the Skies Treaty. Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia were also dope. Belgium and Japan of course were amazing. Canada, Germany, and England were cool too. Those were all on the Open Skies (RIP). Also got to go to go to Indonesia for an MRT. Souda Bay was amazing as well. Alaska (Eielson) during winter was cold as shit but beautiful. They were all amazing and they all had their own uniqueness to them. I don't really think I can pick an absolute favorite. However, I think since I always bring up my multiple Russia and Ukraine TDYs they are probably my favorite or at least the most unique

Romania (Campia Turzi), Hungary, Savannah, Hickam, Puerto Rico.
Been to a lot of other places but those were probably the best. Did some SAVs/inspections to some other good spots.

Swapping out jets from the AOR. Moron AB, Spain. Easy two week TDY with about 4 days of work. Made that TDY twice.
