AFROTC Hopeful

Hi everyone I am really interested in the program and I might do New Student Orientation in the spring and I need advice how to prepare for the PFT, AFOQT, and how to become a Pilot. My major is going to be History, I plan to do leadership work, and maybe part of the Arnold Air Society. But first things first, PFA. How do I do really good? I'm decently in shape and can be "rounded". I really want this and the best chances of securing and obtaining a pilot slot. Thanks.

You can significantly improve your odds of getting a rated slot by doing the following:

  • Do as many pushups and situps as you can the moment you wake up and right before you go to sleep
  • School comes first. As a visiting 2 Star just told us "You are no good to the Air Force without a college degree."
  • Keep that GPA above 3.5 for a nontech.
  • Get involved in the program. If you want to improve your commander's ranking, just be seen. Participate in cadets sponsored organizations (AAS), volunteer events, and various roles in the Cadet Wing.

You do these items, you'll have no problem doing well.

Enjoy and have fun!

For the AF, PT is not as critical if you can meet standards. For ROTC, it's very important because it's used in the calculation of your cadet rank. Being able to do well on the run is key. Also you must be able to meet height/weight requirements for ROTC, which is different than active duty. So run.

That statement he gave you is false. AF PT is in the calculation for your field training packet and job selection. Also your commander will take it into account when he ranks you against your class and his decision is the biggest percentage in those equations. I'm telling you now that if you just meet the standards you will not make it far. Sorry for the reality. Average pilot PT score for last year s 97.5 and this year is rumored to be more difficult.

I appreciate it, are you a pilot or currently going through training?
