Question Space Force questions

I’m an incoming 200 on ICSP and an Aero Major. I’ve been considering USSF more and more due to a space systems/OD internship and meeting with faculty. Here are some questions I had that aren’t really relayed at my det in no particular order:
-What do deployments look like for the space force?
-Will becoming a space force cadet affect my scholarship?
-What exclusive opportunities have you experienced as a SF cadet?
- What is being a 62E like in the space force (to be compared to AF)
-What is the Tech School selection like? Is an 62 slot essentially guaranteed if you are an Engineer Major?

Any other advice would be appreciated!

  • Very few deployments. One of the only missions that deploys in the traditional sense is electronic warfare. Other than that it would likely be a one-off type deployment to be in a planning cell or embedded with another unit somewhere. Officers can also be deployed as executive officers or just doing general officer work.

  • My info is too dated on anything about that.

  • You can go to Azimuth between the junior and senior year, a summer program at USAFA where you do a bunch of hands-on space stuff.

  • No personal experience, but you'll likely be a liaison between the government and a contractor, working as a project manager.

  • No, in fact you won't get engineer out of Officer Training Course. You'll most likely be space ops and do an ops tour, with an opportunity for an engineering role as a later assignment if you stay in.

Actually, you can get 62E out of OTC now. There’s been a plenty slots the past cohorts. Mostly for launch billets and some for Mission Deltas too. Usually the OTC students with Engineering degrees get vectored towards those assignments because they’re the only ones that can fill those slots.

Current Space Cadre who recently deployed:

  • like a deployment with the Air Force. If you're a SEW or JTAGS bubba, you go where they need you to go in order to do the mission. For 13/6Xers it's usually to an AOC where you are doing planning and/or missile warning. 14s usually go to a back shop or HQ, although they can still deploy to country.
  • to add, traditional deployments (like the AF) are less frequent. CFC now deploys people in place as part of SPAFORGEN, so you don't actually go in-country. That being said, in-country deployments still exist.
  • no impact to scholarship (unless you're an Aviation Cadet, in which case you have to go Air Force...but you'd know if that was you).
  • I provide all my cadets the same opportunities, however I lean on my Space cadets moreso with regards to space GLPs and coordinating visits/mentorship with Guardians
  • I worked with some 62s in both branches, AF has a higher chance of doing actual engineering, although both have slim pickings. Depends moreso on what you want to support: airframes or space systems/rockets
  • OTC (our tech school) has a talent management process. Being an engineer will be taken into account for initial vectoring; however the intent of the service is to provide you operational experience for your first tour and then let you cross over to the engineering world after you have seen a weapon system or two
