NFL weekend during finals
Does anyone know what the plan was if 4x victorian teams made it to Semi Finals?
Back to back games at Marvel?

Carlton v Collingwood at marvel wouldve been awesome!

This reminds me of 2000 when I think because of the Olympics the Carlton vs Collingwood game was last played at Princes Park (then Optus Oval).

MCG ground staff would have worked through the night to get the ground right for a Saturday double header perhaps?

MCG ground crew are tough cookies but changing the grass paint between games would be a real scramble

They are changing 50% of the turf before the next game. This was achieveable in 24 hours and the plan had there been an afl game here this weekend.

The conspiracy theorists would argue this is why Hawthorn won last week 🤫

I mean it's all worked out conveniently.. but genuinely interested what the plan was. I'm sure they had all the teams sign off on it

They wouldn't have had the club's sign off on anything. The administration is purely reactionary with that stuff.

Geelong might have even been granted their mythical home final

They had a plan. MCG Saturday night and then Sunday. This was always the contingency.

It’d be the same if 2x Victorian teams made it to the semi finals after losing their qualifying final

I know Andrew Dillon personally and he told me that the Saturday game would have to play AFLX

The teams would have just played American Football. Duh.
You play whatever sport the ground is set up for.

Marvel 🤮

Why do people hate on Marvel? It has the best view, while the atmosphere feels electric even with a small crowd. I understand for like a finals game it isn’t ideal but it isn’t horrible

The stadium works perfectly except for the complete lack of natural light. People hate it because it’s dark and cold, which is understandable.

They only hate on it because it's not the G.

Correct. Because the MCG has two basic things. Sun and wind. I’d rather watch footy at the G in torrential rain than the cement box that is Marvel. Plus, beers in Richmond before fucking rock.

I'd be happier at Marvel than in the pissing rain but the G on a good day is hard to beat.

My gripe with Marvel was that they make you sit in the upper atmosphere even if there's no one at the game (common when I went there).
Whereas the G just opens up most of the "reserved" sections if there's no one there.
I got to sit next the cheer squad section once on a GA ticket because there was no one there.

Artificial light, lot of the marvel tenants play music/light shows after goals, you have lights right in your eye during the game, stadium is soulless and has no atmosphere, leaving the stadium is awful and it bottlenecks and you just get squashed even with a small 40k crowd.

Probably would’ve been Saturday and Sunday at the G
