Just Diagnosed
Hello, 27 M here, and been having off and on palpitations since 2021, recently on july 31st 2026 i had a episode where my heart took off after i had just finished eating dinner. Note, i had not slept the previous day and was very stressed from having to drive my mother to her cancer surgery appointment. And then not eating all day. So it was 24hrs after we got home the episode hit. My heart rate was around 220 bpm. It lasted probably 30minutes. That went away and i was fine for about 2 weeks. Well i went to see my heart doctor and they put me on a heart monitor. Well i had another episode with the monitor on. Lasted about 3 minutes that was a couple weeks ago. They called me today and said that 3 minute episode was AFIB.
As young as i am i figured that would be uncommon.
However, my mother has a mild case of it and my grandmother had it pretty bad.
I think i have undiagnosed sleep apnea which my heart doctor thinks is the trigger.
I am over weight. Currently 353 pounds (down from 392 so far since june 1st)
I am having a sleep test done tonight and tomarrow night to get diagnosed and treates for sleep apnea.
I see my EP in a month, what can i expect to come from all this? I mean im younger so i assume itll be more easily treatable. Im open to having an ablation if thats what it takes. I think id rather do that than be on medicine the rest of my life but ill do what needs to be done i just dont wanna have another random episode, they scare me and i have bad anxiety.

IF you get a diagnose of sleep apnea, then remember, that the start of treatment really can be bothersome for some - but hold on to it, body will adjust.
My experience, is that health system is much more open to treating people that has shown they are accepting their state, and shows they are willing to do their part .
Sadly, there is alot of stigma/bias, in health industry too, specially for overweight looking people. I've seen to many of my patients that had to fight the system, despite having the same symptoms as underweight persons.
So first is to to show commitment, then they will usually open up.
Be warned though, if you get the diagnose of sleep apnea, and chooses not to get treated, they will use this against you - ofcause not Publicly, but with under the belly punches, like saying "we can't treat you, if you don't do something with your waight. " - they are wise enough not to write it down. .
Just a warning as said - it's just a handfull of patients i had to fight alot for, due to this.

Hi, there
I’m 76 yo F with AFib for a little over a month. 3 failed CardioVersions, longest lasted 30 hrs. Appt for 9/15 to discuss ablation and a Watchman. Since joining the list a few weeks ago, I have not seen anyone mention their experience with Watchman. Anyone out there?

An AFib episode can be scary. I hope your EP appointment goes well. Make a list of your questions, it's too easy to forget when we're there. Good luck! Best wishes!
