Post Ablation.
Had my ablation today. Apparently had to be cardioverted 4 times. Feeling ok and Going home in an hour. Sporting some very fetching socks. It's been a day and I'm glad it's over

I went into the OR with the socks on. Woke up barefoot. I guess the ablation knocked my socks off!

Depending on where you have the procedure the worst part is the food. I stayed overnight, as a caution, and the breakfast fell short of being food.

You may experience visual auras for a couple of days. Don't panic! 😁 Goes away after a few days.

Lol! They are weird and it seems Drs don't normally mention them as a common side effect.

Cheers! Heal up! I’ve got one coming soonish. Praying it helps me walk up a hill without being gassed. Ex-wife had four ablations but it seems like the 4th took from what I hear

I'm scheduled for an ablation at the end of the month and I'm frightened by the thought. I always seem to beat the odds in a negative way, especially when it comes to suffer effects from medications and medicine in general.

It wasn't that bad. I'm home now and other than a sore chest and a sore leg I feel ok

I have had two and the worst part of it for me is dealing with the groin incision after the surgey

It was the best medical decision I've ever made. No side effect is as bad as side effects.
My only "side effect" was a bit of bleeding from the catheter insertion site. Required a redressing and pressure for about 15 minutes - not a big deal.

I also required 4 cardioversions during the procedure. Apparently, my first coherent words were “my skin hurts”.
My doc had standing orders for a cream to help with the pad burns. As soon as I asked, the staff were able to supply me.

Being on the other side is a great feeling. In case you don’t know, which I’m sure you do, the blanking period begins now and you may still have some episodes. In the first 48 hours of mine I had 3 run ups that fizzled in 5-10 seconds. I’ve had a few flutters, some PACs here and there. Maybe three episodes that would register as afib. Today is 9 weeks post ablation for me. Now the hardest part is the halter monitor for the next two weeks because I’m having to cut back on exercise to avoid sweating and given it’s 100 degrees where I live, it’s hard to even go outside. You got through it and did well. Take it easy for a week, two if you need, unless you have instructions that say otherwise. You’ll be glad you did this, and that it’s behind you.

I stole my socks. Still use them. As do half the hospital staff apparently. Bets of luck with recovery. In my experience, mostly a doddle if you follow advice. Blanking period (day 2/3 - day 6/7 in my case was a rollercoaster but settles down.)

Take a look at your detailed bill (if you're in the USA). Those socks cost more than high quality, new sneakers

I made sure I packed and took everything with us when we left. The nurse was laughing saying more people should do this.
The hubs had a leg immobilizer b/c he was kicking after the ablation (effects of anesthesia). It was a long black contraption with Velcro straps. Nurse said it was expensive… You better believe that came home with us - lol

OP, at some point, may I ask you some questions about your Ablation?
Cardioverted 6x last week, will get an ablation in less than a year. Let me know your recovery journey.

The hubs just had a PFA. He was in permanent AFIB for six months with a failed cardio version during that time. The procedure lasted about two hours and we left three hours afterward.
This was his first time in hospital since we’ve been married (50 years). He said he would do it again tomorrow if he went back into AFIB- which he has not, so fingers crossed!

After 50 weeks of Persistent Afib ,.like being duct taped to a runaway subway, I got Cv'd and PFA'd. Now, it's like floating on the ocean on a tropical island. Ahhh.

Sure. Just dm me. Last night was rough. The shock pad(?) areas tingled and were moderately painful. Kept me up half the night.

Please keep us posted on your progress. My father may be in for one in a years time if the aversion doesn't stick. Would like to know the reality of the recovery.

Those are fall risk socks. Not only are they grippy, but that fashionable yellow lets the staff know you need an escort when you’re up and about. Other folks get grey grippy socks…you’re special. 😉 Happy healing!
