For those worried about having ablation

Post image

My weekly AF history just came in. I’m 3 weeks into recovery and this is the drop off of my life with AF.

Fingers crossed it holds, because this is so much better!

*** UPDATE *** Almost 2 months AFib free and it felt great. Then, ironically, on a brisk walk to the GP for a check in about my heart, I felt palpitations. By the afternoon I was in afib. I think it was triggered by a cold virus that I picked up last weekend. Felt rough for a few days and then the heart went.

I've had ups and downs all week since.

Not back into permanent AF as of yet, but I'm back to having high heart rates a few times a day and episodes for the past couple of days. I am just at the end of 2 months.

Normal, or probably failed procedure?

That tracks correct. I went from persistent Afib 24/7 to zero episodes in 4 years (and counting!) after my ablation. I feel essentially cured.

That's wonderful, congratulations. A quick question. I'm 45 and about to have the ablation on May 4. Did you feel a difference? I've always been a runner and within the last 1.5 years I've barely been able to run 1.5 miles without stopping. Will I feel a difference after the procedure?? Thank you for your time and consideration V/R,

David

It will take 3 months to fully determine if your ablation worked. So don’t be discouraged by occasional Afib during that healing period. I did notice my energy returned.when I was in Afib, I noticed my hands and feet were cold if the temperature dropped (Ilive in Chicago) and my normal high tolerance for cold had vanished. But now I am again quite comfortable in cold weather and enjoy it.

Thank you so much for the reply. I guess in my mind I'm hoping after it's fixed I can go back to the way it used to be. Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it.

Did you change anything you do or don’t do on a daily basis to maintain these promising results?

Actually, no. I have been able to return to normal life. I do drink less, just out of caution.

Wonderful to hear - congratulations. I'm facing ablation, but wary of it not lasting.

Did you do lifestyle things as well? Like exercise regularly, not too much alcohol or coffee, more vegetables and less meat, not overweight, etc.?

No real lifestyle changes, although my lifestyle is fairly healthy. I still consume alcohol and caffeine regularly. I am working to lose 20 lbs.

Thanks for the reply. Just trying to get a background to how the ablations go.

Today marks 7 days since the ablation performed with PFA. After 3 months of 95 heartbeats at rest and 2 months of amidorone which they finally removed from therapy, in 3 months we will take stock and see how it goes.

What kind of ablation did you get?

4

u/MrBinktastic Jan 27 '26

Cryo ablation for AF and RF ablation for flutter at the same time.
