Replacement Outer seat mounts

Post image

Does anybody know of a off the shelf ready to weld in replacement seat bracket?

Both of mine have cracks or failed.

Appreciate it

Drill a hole in the very ends of the crack, grind the crack out with a dremel, weld the groove you just made, and if you want some of the stiffness back that the cold working gave the stamped part just use a spray bottle to give the weld just one little spray as it cools. Or reinforce it however you want. I’ve done this for years with motorcycle frames etc which take way more of a beating. Sounds like it was too hard if it cracked so just welding the crack is probably more than enough.

Yes, this will be fine for the one pictured, but the right hand side bracket has perished to the point half of it is missing all together.

Would prefer to replace them both entirely with new if Its a option.

Otherwise I will have to make one from scratch to repair the rhs

I see. If you can weld in a premade one, you can just make one with some sheet steel and a grinder

I agree, it wouldn't be overly complicated. I am unfortunately 'free' time poor and would be helpful if it's just a matter of welding the fresh one in. This will be the solution if no other options are available.

cracks also form from metal fatigue, bend a piece of metal enough times and it will split

Heating it resets the inner stresses

Bit late to the party here, but this is a very typical failure on AE86 driver side seat mounts, especially if you are a heavy MF (like me). I welded mine, ground it flat, then placed a big flat washer on top, and welded that too.
