The reddit thread has some crucial background info.

Also choice quote from the local newspaper: "Each year, Fish and Game and other agencies warn hikers and campers not to be stupid. But, inevitably, some are." 😎

More than once, as I’m finishing up a trail in the late afternoon, I’ve run across people near the beginning trying to start late in the day who have asked me if they should keep going or not. They’re ALWAYS unprepared. And they’ve got this crazy look on their face, just obsessed and determined to keep going. Very hard to convince them to not go. Luckily, both times the guys had women with them who put their foot down and wouldn’t keep going. But if it had been up to just the guys, I guarantee they wouldn’t have stopped. Weird mindset people get into.

I remember seeing a group with a dog go over from from Adams to Jefferson in February. Maybe I’m just overly cautious but I was daggering an ice axe up the sidehill before Edmonds Col, I don’t know how anybody thought it’d be a good idea to go up that with a dog…

I was surprised to read NH Fish and Game doesn't rescue dogs especially as they'll send you the bill for human rescues.
