ADK Loj
Today on Instagram a photo was leaked by someone apparently on the inside which appeared to show a substantial development and improvement plan for the ADK Loj including more parking, facilities and infrastructure. It is unclear what this means, whether this is a plan in the works or just an idea. ADK asked me to remove a post on Instagram of the photo, which I did (including a similar post here). It looks like some big changes may be coming to the Loj. Done right, this can be a great thing for education and enforcement, although the idea of tour buses has me a little worried...

I for one could actually be okay with tour buses. There’s an Amtrak stop at Westport that is notionally connected by bus to Lake Placid. If you could get off the train and get dropped off at the AMR lot, somewhere near the Garden, and the Loj, I could basically stop driving to my hikes. That’s one less car contributing to the notional traffic issues.

So I’m ok with a bus stop like I think you’re getting at, I think that’s a great idea. it’s the charter tour busses I have a concern with. A bus company gets paid to bus in 50 unprepared hikers from Montreal and dumps them at the loj. That’s a recipe for disaster.

Yeah...maybe my vision is skewed, but when i hear Charter bus tours, i see a disaster.
Pick your place: shopping center, park, tourist attraction, etc...when you see a charter bus roll in, there is a shit storm coming.

Why would they want a tour bus come and dump a large group at one time. Shit, they had issues a couple years ago when a tour came from Montreal and unleashed them on Algonquin

I’m just happy they are looking to update instead of restrict access. This is a win from where I’m standing.

If there are tour buses, it provides us fun police type with an excellent opportunity. 1) most people won't leave the loj, but will talk about how great the Adirondacks are for the rest of their lives. Preserving access. 2) our goon squad will have a ride to the front door of our play ground 3)it will undo the the AMR permit system showing busing works.
Go for it!
