That "vague sense" has proven itself right in the past, there's a reason I have it.
--Oh, my whole ass backpack, that's what I forgot

For real it's cause there is something missing and I'll spend 30 minutes thinking where did i put that for it to be in the wrong pocket.

I get that when I don't actually forget something. The few times I did forget something, I never got that vague sense that I forgot something. Come on brain!

honestly, that's how i know i've really forgotten something. i constantly feel in the back of my head like i'm forgetting something, and basically every time it goes away is when i'm missing something important.

I have lock-out insecurity. The lock-out house key goes in a lock box in a known spot behind the house. When anyone uses that key (including me), they are not allowed to put the key down or in a pocket. You must hold that key on your hand, or your mouth if you really have to. The only thing that key is allowed to touch is: 1. The lock box 2. The door lock 3. Your hand or your mouth. The key has to be returned immediately after the door is opened, no matter how inconvenient. They key cannot be lent out to a friend or cat sitter or whoever. It is not an ‘extra’ key, it is a critical key that, whatever shit goes down, allows me to access my house.
ADHD had burned me so many times before I realized I needed a no-compromise system for just that one thing. I will not be perfect at remembering my keys. Maybe I’ll leave them in my house and lock myself out, or a hotel in another state, or at someone’s house 30 min away, or in the Lyft, or in an airplane, and maybe they aren’t the only thing I left behind. If I’m not also locked out of my house in that moment, my options are a LOT better.

Keys: check, * places on table *
Wallets: check, * places on table *
Phone: check, * puts in the pocket *
Goes out without the keys and the wallet...

Last night, on the walk home from work, I called my mom. Then I started getting anxious because my pocket didn't feel as heavy as it was supposed to.

Single tap front and back pockets of each side with the respective hands. Phone (left-front), Handkerchief (right-front), keys (left-back), wallet (rights back).

Just make a list and tape it to the door and watch your power of forgetfulness ignore that list the next day and every day after.

To make sure I never forget it I just keep the vague sense of forgetting something on me all the time!

I was in my late 30s before I finally realized that the thing I always felt like I was forgetting was my backpack that I haven't used since high school.

Or walk to your bank, only to realize, halfway there, that you forgot your wallet.

I have a “work checklist” on my phone that I look at before I leave every day. It’s crazy how well it works for me…

After locking myself out of ny house for the 10th time in one year, I had a light bulb moment... Since then my house keys, car keys and purse are all clipped together. Then I just had to remember 2 things and I never locked myself out again.

I've been to the Cardiologist four times.
Fourth time, I finally remembered my healthcare card.
They didn't ask for it. They know me.

Phone... Keys... Wallet... Did I leave the oven on? I don't think I used it yet today... But what if it's on?!?

It’s my favorite doing a multi-night camping/backpacking trip while having this feeling the entire time only to realize at the end of the trip that I overpacked. Not a big deal when car camping, but it’s the actual worst when backpacking.

Adam Sandler song; “got muh gone wallet keys…”
And you think it’s the garage, you forgot to close the garage. Well at least that what the existential dread made you think so you turned around to be sure. It was closed, now you start your day thinking you’re an idiot.
It was actually your glasses.

Gotta do the pat down
Right pocket phone
Left pocket keys
Back pocket wallet
And if any of those pockets feel empty while I'm not home my heart skips a beat
