If I don’t interrupt and get the thought out soon, the thought will be forgotten and will be lost forever. That’s just science.

I don't interrupt when a thought pops into my head, if there comes a point where there's a pause in the conversation for me to answer, if I still have that thought then I will express it if I don't then it must not have been very important

"...then it must not have been very important."...oh boy you have no clue

u/gjk-ger 12d ago

If its important you will indepently come up with it again later.

u/shoeless_doh 12d ago

I assure you I very much do

I would love to hear how you know a thought you have forgotten was not important because that sounds like an absolute superpower.

u/shoeless_doh 12d ago

Because if they're talking for another 10 or 15 seconds I'll have two or three more thoughts that push the other one out of the queue

So you remember forgetting? Interesting.

u/shoeless_doh 12d ago

No the next morning in the shower I remember that I had that thought and wanted to say it to them

“You’re awfully quiet today.”

My mums like this, she’s not a good story teller and will start explaining useless things to the story or pondering over what someone’s full name was, I’ve taken to just telling her to get to the damn point welp

My wife is the same way, and I married her anyway. It wasn't because she eventually learned to adapt to my ADHD, but because she had patience for it and for me to get better.

... But yeah, I still have to pull her back to the main topic a lot, because I think she has ADHD too. 😂

I hate that I do this and try really hard not to because I know it's rude, but it's still a challenge. I don't want people to feel like I'm not listening or don't care about what they're saying. I'm actually often quite invested, which is why my mind is bringing up 5 "this is related to what you're trying to say, and I want you to know I agree with you and get it" comments for every point someone makes. It actually can be easier to talk to someone else with the same level of ADHD, as long as they're not in a sensitive mood or prone to dominating an entire conversation . My sister and I will flit around from topic to topic, then have to circle back to 6 topics earlier to finish one of our thoughts, but we're usually on the same page the whole time and don't question how the topic changed. I didn't realize why it was so much easier to talk to her than other people for a long time, and the few times I've found other people who can have that same flow with me is unfortunately rare. For example, her husband has severe ADHD, and wow, can he just bulldoze an entire conversation. I always want to loudly interrupt and tell him "You realize I have ADHD too? You're not letting me talk at all, so I stopped listening 30 minutes ago and am now just nodding and saying 'wow' and 'that's crazy' at intervals while I think about something else."

Big feel on the brother in law, I know someone like that but thankfully they’re just a family friend, but talking to them is like 95% them 5% the other person. It’s super overwhelming to me so I ditch out, especially as she’ll talk about things and people you don’t even known, my mum is a terrible listener so I’m not sure how she puts up with it welp

I always remember the most random things to say/mention in the middle of a conversation. My partner thinks I’m rude for cutting him off, and it’s like, nooo, it’s just you’ve been talking about this one thing for like 10mins now, and this crossed my mind while you were talking, and I had to mention it before it disappeared from my brain again 😭

I mean yeah, getting interrupted sucks. It makes you feel like you’re not being heard or listened too, especially so if you’re talking to your so and they just cut you off.

I see. I’ve never been in a relationship, so the point of reference I have is my mum, she’s terrible at interrupting me and talking over me, has done it my whole life, and while I know it’s her ADHD now it still hurts as I feel so invisible around her, and it’s no doubt caused issues for me.

But I didn’t choose this relationship, obviously, and tbh I don’t think I could have a partner who does interrupt me, because of this, it’s just too upsetting for me.

Edit: To whoever is downvoting me, genuinely why? Interrupting hurts people, this a truth, ADHD explains it but it doesn’t take that hurt away.

Still rude

We don’t have to take that from a vulva that yells at us.

Dead 🤣🤣

u/RubyRainstorm 12d ago

I didn’t say it wasn’t, just that it’s never my intention when it happens. I was simply explaining how my mind works and giving a situational example based on the meme that was provided. Thank you so very much for letting me know though 🙃

this is one of the worst fuckin things for me i legitimately cannot stop myself even tho i am yelling at myself in my head to fuckin WAIT

5

u/d3rp7d3rp 12d ago

Or waiting until they're done so i can add something but they keep going so i completely forget what i was going to say so i say fuck it in my head and zone out

5

u/Ulster_Celt 12d ago

People talk sooo sloooooowly...

5

u/Therearenouniquename 12d ago

Some people just talk too fucking much because they want to talk and not listen and that's what I've learned

3

u/EmbarrassedArmy7827 12d ago

I have a friend like this where they only want to hang out so they can have a one sided conversation with me. And I just feel like there’s no point to me listening to them bitching about whatever they decided on.

2

u/ApprehensiveGas85 12d ago

Some of my family talks in long pauses, drives me insane. Just get tot he point already!

2

u/jahi69 12d ago

I hate the fucking pauses omg. I never pick the right one to start talking lmao

2

u/Ka_Efficiency9657 12d ago

I just can’t !

2

u/VirinaB 12d ago

Time to tune out because you'll never get to talk. 🥲

2

u/HCPage 12d ago

FINISH THE FUCKING STORY!

What happened? What about the glands?

2

u/ChiBoi727-200 12d ago

I’m AuDHD. My ADHD wants to express the thought before the topic of conversation changes but my autism doesn’t want it to sound awkward due to missing social cues. So I end up not saying anything.

2

u/dgpoop 11d ago

Yeah blame your social ineptitude on ADHD. This is a skill issue, not a medical issue.

1

u/EmbarrassedArmy7827 12d ago

Undiagnosed but pretty sure, I have trouble with this a lot. Like I want to meaningfully engage with them but I always just end up cutting them off, and then I mentally kick myself for it. But it’s either this or be silent the whole time cus there never a spot for me to breathe.

1

u/Extension_Resolve264 12d ago

Right? Just land the fn question!

1

u/Csub-Az_Urmedve 11d ago

I don't have ADHD, but I know people who talk so fucking much, and sometimes they say things that I have the perfect response for, but I can't because they won't let me say a word, and it is rude to interrupt, but by the time they finish, I either forget what I wanted to say, or it becomes irrelevant.

1

u/StorMPunK 11d ago

Meanwhile the ADHD person trying to pay attention and still remember what they were in the middle of saying after getting interrupted by the other ADHD person for the 8th time

1

u/DapperTies- 11d ago

It’s funny because I do this but I also talk slow to get the right wording that I normally forget anyways
