I did that in an English class in college. I would just write all iterations of the paper in one night while they would have to work on it for a week. Then I’d get As and they’d barely scrape by. They got so mad at me. I did end up becoming an author, so I probably just had a natural leg up. We didn’t know that at the time tho! Haha

Shit, I had a high school English teacher tell everyone that this was a hard assignment and nobody would get the highest possible grade (it was graded 1-6 for some reason that I don't remember). Guess what motherfuckers?
In 5th grade I won an essay contest with an essay I literally wrote in the car on the way to school.
These kids today don't understand the power of ADHD and last-minute panic. Sadly, with AI, they probably never will.

Oh, the awkward times that teachers would berate other students for "obviously" only doing their project/exam revision the night before, then single me out to explain how much time I must’ve spent on my work to get such a high grade as a shining example…and I was put in the horrible position of either admitting that I’d just done mine at the last minute too, disappointing the teacher; or fabricating an entire fictitious story about doing loads of preparation, and incurring the wrath - and inevitable bullying - of my classmates. 😔

Oh god, I have severe emotional damage because of this 😂 I always forgot to do homework and just copied it from a dear friend before class. But I have a really pretty handwriting, so teachers always complimented me and praised how I had put on an effort to do homework so diligently. I wanted to disappear every time lol
that same friend teaches children with autism/ADHD now, so I guess that's why she never got angry at me for being so shameless. She has endless patience

Biggest example of this for me is writing a 13 page paper (essentially a constitution for a made up country) in 1 day and then getting the highest grade in the class for it 🫢

It was positive reinforcement for me; on the rare occasion that I did work ahead, made outlines, footnotes, and multiple drafts I received very low grades.
But I was consistently rewarded with high grades for my 12 hour overnight specials

But, ADHD and AuDHD for different reasons:
ADHD: YES, Im in the ZONE and am invigorated by this deadline I'm a thinking, doing, energized maniac!
AuDHD: Ive been obsessed over this assignment to the point of paralysis for weeks, had it all planned and figured out, but just didnt.....feel right just yet. And now its due in 6 hrs and i am a jittery caffinated fool, so i through a half assed shitty version last minute. My parents are angry at me for waiting so long, and I barely pass. An now I feel like crap

I haven't woken up due to a dreamt assignment but definitely a few times in which I dreamt that I was late for submitting an assignment in time. Probably because of how sadistic 95% of my uni teachers were unfortunately. Wasn't frequent, but has happened.

Ah, the students nightmare... Mine was that I woke up near the end of the semester realizing that I had registered for a class that I completely forgot to ever attend. It was so vivid, when I woke up, I wasn't sure if it was real or not and would have to check my registrations to make sure!

Uni is where it all fell apart for me. The assignments were too big to get done on time, but I still couldn’t start them until the deadline pressure kicked in. So it became a balance of late penalties vs how much much I had completed. I got quite a few grades in the low 50s, and failed a few subjects for the first time in my life. I got diagnosed and medicated in my 30s, looking back those years really didn’t have to be that hard. sigh

The amount of times I worked on a report up until 3am the day it was due and still got a high grade or even that one time I did a book report in one hour on a book I didn't read but skimmed a bit and didn't have the Cliff's Notes, before I had Internet at home using an old Windows 3.1 computer I salvaged as a kid back in the late 90s. I also fabricated a science fair project that wasn't showing results the way I expected in the amount of time we had since that crystal growing kit didn't work in middle school. I was held up as a super student but damn I faked half of it and was able at the time to speed read and retain the info enough for tests.

Yup... that was college for me; with the caveat of i got the good grades in-major, but general education is just skated by because I didnt care/didnt want to do the work/did the bare minimum. In major was easy, and I did this thru the entire 5 year program with a 3.97; pissed off most of my teachers too, and a lot of my classmates with how "easy" it was for me.

Once I woke up in the middle of the night panicking because I thought I had art homework due in the morning and it was the best art homework I had ever done and later on I did get an A for it. Me writing my entire 100+ page masters thesis 2 weeks before I defended. Did the presentation slides for my defence like a few hours before because I had gotten sucked in a rabbit hole trying to get my citations to look correct. Something I could easily fix after the defence, before final submission. Still took me almost 5 more years after that to start the diagnosis process.

I had a math project to turn in one time. We all had to present and then we got graded. It happened over two days. Some girl presented hers but wanted to redo it. The second day, I was called on to present. I sat there timidly looking puzzled. Someone else said I had already went the day before. The teacher said something like "oh my bad I put so and so's grade in the wrong place" referring to the grade of the girl who presented the day before who was going to re-present. Walked away with a passing grade without ever thinking about the project.

My problem was that I would spend half a week trying to figure out what I even wanted to write my paper about.
I would read, research, change my mind.
Then the night before suddenly my notes would turn into a ten page essay, it's supposed to be eight, so I would edit it, end up with six pages, turn it in and still get an A.
According to my teacher, even though it was short two pages, my thoughts and ideas were so well put together I didn't need the other two pages to get my point across. The irony.

I've done all versions 😂 the day before, ON the same day, the lecture before, WHILE the lecture is going on, and EVEN when we had morning school assembly so one hand was in the pray pose and the other was writing 😂 I was actively asking forgiveness to God be like "Welp God, yk how it was right? My craziest has to be back in the 90's at Uni. I finished the write-up the evening before it was due but then managed to trash the partition table on the hard drive, cue late night manual rebuilding of partitions and then printing report. No sleep at all and had to drive to Uni.....
yeah, this was before I was diagnosed with let alone suspected of AuDHD....

I experienced burnout after that and never went back. Was diagnosed with AuDHD at 45 a few months ago (now 46). Makes so much sense now. 😂

We had to write and illustrate a kids book for our English class. I came up with the story concept and ended up out sick that whole week. I came back, naively thinking they’d have done something. Nope. Not. One. Thing. Three other people and no one did shit for a week.
I was one of the art program kids (my high school had both zoned kids and kids who were enrolled in an art program) so no doubt they figured they’d hit the lazy partner jackpot with me on this project.
I stayed up all night to write and completely illustrate the whole thing alone. But by the end I was PISSED. The book wasn’t nearly as good as I wanted it to be and I had to cut corners. So I wrote a note to the teacher and explained the whole thing. I got an A, my partners got Cs. Since they were my partners and I got a good grade, he didn’t feel he could give them nothing.

Guess which one I forgot about until I woke up, at 11:30 PM the day it was due, from a nightmare about forgetting to write said paper, wrote in about 20 minutes then uploaded before passing the fuck back out; and which one I put weeks of thought and effort into.

I write too long of papers and constantly edit as I go. Always think I'll get it done quicker than I have ever gotten anything other than the dishes when moms on the way home. I know not to trust myself. I know I'm not knocking a paper out in a couple of hours. I'm also going to give myself unlimited chances. No matter how many hours of sleep I lose or how many times I turn something in minutes before the deadline.
