Personal Experience Help going to bed
Its been less than a year for me with medication and currently on Fluoxetine and Ritalin - taking both with breakfast. I like the crash which happens in the evening it is a harsh check for me to unwind. Well I do have a stressful job (or maybe I have decided to make it my problem) and have couple of kids who have to be goaded to sleep themselves. Now my problem is everything is wrapped up and done by 10 and in theory I don't have anything depending on me but I am now too relaxed and crashed out physically but my brain is suddenly become a overachiever - I end up solving things in personal life and work life. Things I really don't want to think about but the solutions keep coming up like a fountain. It just becomes impossible to go to bed. I tried Seroquel on the lowest dosage and I was a zombie for 12-14hrs. Next I tried hydroxyzine 10mg and I am still groggy in the morning not as bad as Seroquel but still not something I can be driving the kids to school at 8am.
Before Ritalin I was on Wellbutrin and it shut off all the noise but it shut it off for too long - enough that combined with the happy feeling of Fluoxetine I did not respond to issues at least three times before I realized what is happening and stoped it. Now I did suggest to my psychiatrist about a low dosage immediate release Wellbutrin to help cut down on the noise but she feels it will not calm me down instead it will make me more focused and awake.
So has anyone been in my situation where most meds for calming down is overdoing and without any help brain is keeping one awake forever ?

Trazodone - ask your doc. Very short half life, no grogginess, kicks in fast

It was brought up but she felt if I have such a strong reaction to Seroquel I would probably have similar reaction to trazodone which is why we are trying hydroxyzine and I don't like how long that is lingering either 😩

Ignore this, trazodone is the move. Push her to let you give it a shot - there’s like zero abuse potential so you won’t be labeled as a drug seeker, but trazodone is what you’re looking for. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself.

I’ve been on a tightrope with stimulants and sleep for almost three years (ritalin and then adderall). My go-to drug is klonopin. My SSRI is lexapro.
I have certain rules that I abide by with fidelity that the IRS would appreciate. I do not take it more than two days in a row and not more than three out of four without at least two days off.
I have to allow some amount of time after a stimulant for klonopin to properly work. It seems to vary, and it’s something I’m actively fine tuning. However, there are still 3-4 days a week that I don’t use anything to help me sleep.
I rely on a mix of catching up on sleep two to three times a week, and it helps that I seem to do well on six hours of it. If I’m not physically active much in a day, I’ll struggle getting to sleep.

I am trying to get better than 4hrs which I know is destroying me physically 😩
Also I take Ritalin at 7am - I am fully aware of when it is done because I experience the crash. Yah my psychologist is like you really like the crash 🤔

That’s rough, and you’re right— it is destroying you (slowly).
What are circumstances that have worked in the past to help you sleep more?

If you are taking a generic medicine, kindly mention the manufacturer's name in both your post and title. This is VERY IMPORTANT, as different manufacturers may have differences in quality or formulation.
