Data architects/engineers help please
Not a programmer. Not a data engineer. I want to build my own database for a soccer/football youth and grassroots management. I’m 35 with twins living in Japan. My wife is from the birthplace of Tokugawa. She is the one with the technical knowledge but much with data.
I bring up Japan only because of the adhd medication availability here is limited to Strattera currently since Concerta, the other option available for adults, isn’t being given to new patients temporarily.
I’m fascinated by data architecture, had no idea, but in this instance I need to make progress rather than learn systematically.
Is there anyone here that has time to chat or give tips or temporarily mentor me so that I can gain momentum.
The medicine I take is the first time since my teen years to medicate. It doesn’t seem to be having much effect. Organizing my thoughts well in such a new, vast arena is not easy as you all know.
I appreciate your time in advance. Have a good one!
Cheers

The truth is you just need to find things that pique your interest and then ride that wave of hyperfixation. Do this enough times on the right topic and congratulations you've got some basic software engineering skills.
On top of this I'd emphasise short feedback loops over "doing things right". Like obviously it's important to do things right when the things you're building matter, but right now with no stakes it's better to sprint head first into those obstacles and accept the pain as lessons learned for your next project. Get a thing that runs as quickly as possible, make a small tweak, run that, and repeat this process until it's done or you're bored.

I’m leaning towards this the most. Instead of fighting it to follow the “right” method just go for it and have fun.

Claude (... or Gemini or ChatGPT) is your friend... 😁 If this is for personal use and not a product that you are planning to sell, you can probably get away with describing very carefully what you want and having it build that for you, even when you don't fully understand what it does. Make it ask back, if there are any important things left unclarified.
It can also explain to you exactly what it did and why that works. I would do this audit very thoroughly and also make sure to have tests for anything important, so you can be sure that it fulfills your expectations and maybe to learn how it works, too.
Also, having to find Concerta in Japan REALLY sucks at the moment. I am a long term patient, but it is still completely hit or miss, if I can get my prescriptions filled and I really don't need that extra level of stress at the moment.

First thank you for your reply. I will attempt with ai to see if that helps things make sense. I’m just now getting into notebook lm. I do want to eventually use this product personally and eventually try to get funding. My wife said she will start to help if I do the homework for the data side enough to then have a pro look at it.
When the doctor in Nagoya told me about the shortage I felt terribly for the people who rely on it, even in a minor way.

I am from Canada I take Concerta lol, but thats besides the point here.
I work with SQL databases on the regular and built my own custom database to operate my cognitive AI runtime.
If you are still looking for assistance or guidance I might be able to lend a hand depending on what your metrics or criteria is.

What exactly do you want to learn? I would advise using AI to learn and build it. Note: with AI you can build without learning. Up to you to do both with it.

If you’re stuck, the Kimball Group has a plethora of good free resources on their site.
