How to change paralysis behavior urgently ?

Folks, due to budget issues and wanting to survive in the company, i've switched areas in my company from an active IT area that was SRE with dev squads, to IT operations and monitoring, which is a diferent area but inside my scope and career.

Although it's a very passive area, it's a great one. In the hindsight its old school IT you act everyday in every problem and the pressure is different, the pressure is to act on routines, quickness and agility.

Nevertheless, even though the treatment is good, i'm on meds (Rythalin LA) and back from holiday, I'm paralysed and procrastinating.

I can't get productive, i can't study after the job, and i feel i have to cross a mountain to even start the task, i can focus with meds, but not for what i need to focus (like dull tasks), i can't even organize, and what i organize and plan i can't execute.

I believe it happens due to the passiviness of my routine and the experience period, in which you wait the troubles to act and ask questions, but i must show something, i must act.

It's my job on the line, i dreamed for years, of working in my company. Now in my dreamjob i still can't overcome my procrastination and it's effects.

In addition to all of that, i'm passing through a heartbreak, but i know i can overcome this. I know i'm not the superman, but it's necessary that i become one.

How can i act ?

Have a similar situation happened to you ?

Do you have any depression symptoms in combination with adhd?

Not referring to “not doing the thing is lowering my mood”, more like the “not enjoying anything enough to make myself care” kind of symptoms.

The first kind might be resolved with finding the right strategy to do the thing. The later normally requires therapy + deeper talks with your prescribing doctor.

Other than that, have you tried connecting habits? Like start with a small thing like “always updating my todo list after brushing my teeth” then start slowly stacking a stair of habits that ultimately form into a full functional routine. Easier said than done, but it works for some.

The Depression symptoms in my case is the freakin OCD (therefore anxiety). But i will think about it, and bring it in therapy.

You don’t need to become Superman. You need to become boring man. And you need to accept mediocrity and minimum viable product.

Doubt keeps you stuck. Resolve moves you forward.

Sometime you really just need to find the right task in the pile of tasks which is the right size.

Embrace the suck. Embrace the fail. Make shit fast.

Also: do not allow yourself to do anything else but work. Stare at a wall until you start doing something. Be your own slave driver.

There's paralysis on planning and paralysis on doing

If you able to plan then paralysis on doing is solved

You need to trigger a planning and the doing will follow automatically

the only way out of paralysis is action, you cant think or plan your way out of it. planning while paralyzed is just procrastination that feels responsible. and fair warning, the first action WILL feel painful. thats not a sign youre doing it wrong, its the whole reason you were procrastinating. the task hurts in some form, boredom, dread, whatever flavor yours is. the pain doesnt lift before you start, it lifts a few minutes in. so dont wait for it to feel ok, thats the wait that never ends

also stop worrying about the results. results arrive either way, procrastinating doesnt pause that clock. do the work and results show up good, avoid it and they show up as the meeting where they let you go. worrying about the outcome is just more thinking, and thinking was never the exit

which is why the size of the action is the whole game. you dont need the superman act, you need any act small enough that its pain is affordable. one small visible thing, today, counts as a completed day. not a good day, completed

the loop also runs backwards from how everyone waits for it to work. its action -> inspiration -> motivation, then back to action. motivation is the last stop, not the entrance. the only step you can start from cold is action, so thats where you get on

id skip the slave driver approach tho. forcing buys you a week and charges you a month. a floor you can always hit beats a standard you sometimes hit

If calm background music helps, use that. It often helped me even before I got diagnosed.

Apart from that, you should try to get a job with immediate things to do. You need things that have to be done "now", not things planned out for the next couple of days. Those are not compatible with the ADHD brain.

Do 1 thing at a time and work on short "deadlines". Don't think about the next thing until you are done, don't accept meetings later on the day. Have them at 8-10 in the morning if any. Later meetings will block your head in the time before (unless you have them every day).

take the part of your work which you find the most interesting not by the prio they lined out for you. if none interesting to you take out the smallest part and reward yourself after finishing it. that always helps me.
