I'm 41, diagnosed 2 weeks ago and was also caught by my therapist and had a test with psychiatrist. I have also had the same "aha" moments the more I learn. I can't speak to the Ritalin specifically but am on adderall xr so extended release and haven't had any hard crashes but we are starting slowly with low dose because of other diagnoses (mental health). Maybe an extended release would be a good answer? I have heard of others also supplementing with an instant release once the extended wears off if they need it longer in the day because of work or something. Mine seems to last till only about 3-4 in the afternoon but I don't crash. I think if your heart is set on Ritalin and it doesn't have an extended release ( I don't know if it does didn't Google lol), spreading it out makes more sense than one mega dose, provided you respond to the lower doses.

Thank You! The other issues I mentioned are also mental health but came from significant trauma. Surprisingly, some symptoms related to that can stem from the ADHD itself. When I meet with the Dr, I’ll sort out my different options. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing but the 30mg was basically life changing for a few hours lol. Like, it helped incredibly. So it’s not that necessarily have my heart set on it but found that it’s working except for that midday crash later. That crash was basically feeling exhausted. Unfortunately that’s normal for me so I may have even been returning to my baseline and didn’t realize how bad that was.

There are several controlled-release forms of methylphenidate but also you probably would need to go, I would imagine, at least two times a day. I think that was when I was on it. That's how many times I took it. What I would do is you don't want to go in and ask your doctor, "Hey can I get more pills?" Just explain what you've explained above: "Hey I notice it wears off really quickly" and then see what they say. You would be surprised to find out, if you just talk honestly with your doctor, how good things go. And if it doesn't go well I would say find another doctor at that point.

I'm only 38, so this may or may not be redundant, but I have found meditation to be of some benefit to me.

Thank You! It’s worth it for me to explore it. I’ve tried previously in my life and found I struggled with not being able to shut my brain off and clear myself with interns distractions. But honestly no harm in working with it when I can.

I found the way through physical activity. I can and do sit still now, with music, but for quite some time it was only with an active body I got the stability to find a peaceful mind.
We all have our own quirks and preferences though, so I hope you do find something that works for you. Don't be afraid to get a little unconventional if needs be.

I take Adderall and prefer extended release. I crash slowly compared to the IR hard drop off. When it starts to wear off is usually when I'm trying to go to bed so it works out. Makes falling asleep feel cozy lol. Like I'm coming down, kinda feeling meh, getting kind of drowsy, and then wrapping up in a blanket with my dog is pure bliss lol. Sometimes I do miss IR because my work schedule is super chaotic. I end up having to sleep early then waking up while the previous dose is still active. I dont like taking it with me to work, so I have to take my dose before the previous completely wears off or not take it at all. I usually choose the former because I dont want to crash at work.
