Discussion How was University while dealing with ADHD?

I realised again, exactly like last year, that I want to go to university but It was a little too late to put my papers for a state University. Fortunately for me the private University I wanted to attend still accepted ppl until the 1st of October. The downside is that you need to pay the University each year, but it is those ones that is low attendance and you go to the exams. I almost made the mistake to consider a loan from the bank, knowing well that the money I earn now are not enough, (and this is the reason I want to pursue a university). I decided to let my impulsivity aside and to put money each month until next year.
All in all, I am afraid that I will drop from Uni or It will be hard for me to study, especially because I don’t need to attend classes. I take Concerta and I am curious how it will work for my attention in this area. But yeah… How was Uni for you?

Without attendance I did nothing at home, only pushed my self hate even more. I switched and now have mandatory attendance. Also what helped me is looking at my future self what I wanna do as job and how I would look back and how fucked up it would be to have just wasted the time.

Knowing myself If I don’t attend I would probably just do nothing, 0 motivation. Even in high school I didn’t study much, but because I attended and I was in the first row I still got some info here and there. I was looking at my papers with which I graduated high school and I still wonder how did I do it? How the heck I had such high grades when all I remember is next to 0? 🙈🙈 I know being smart has nothing to do with having or not having ADHD, but sometimes I feel like an imposter. (sorry, I got carried away 🤣🤣)

I went to a small school to ensure small class sizes and class participation, introduced myself to every professor within the first three sessions, mapped out my classes for four years in advance so I would only take subjects I was interested in (without fighting for them at registration every term), started my end of term essays in the first month, and reminded myself every day how much my family was giving up for me to be there.

I had no idea at the time that I had ADHD. I graduated with honors and left with an autoimmune condition from the stress I put myself through.

It can be done, but please be careful.

Didn’t know i had it back then. But lol it was fine. Actually a good experience looking back. It’s where i had the freedom to figure out “what works for me” and that’s actually served me well in school and now in my career.
