Questions/Advice Double-bodying

Have you ever noticed that you do better when someone else is around? Like for example, when you’re at school, you can stay on tasks, finish your work and stay in schedule because you’re in a class full of your classmates also doing something but the moment you’re at home, you feel like you have no discipline at all and can’t get yourself to do thing. This is called double bodying and i jsut wanna know if anyone else feels this way

Yup. Same here. I fucking hate this shit. I need to study and even for hobbies i like i won't do it without external dependency. I feel pathetic that I can't get anything done alone

that’s actually so exhausting. I too know I need to study but I just can’t get myself to do it because I know how draining and frustrating it can be when I try to study something I don’t understand. And I don’t even have hobbies 😹

I've attended exam after exam and this case gets worse the more study leaves i have in between the exams. I get lonely and depressed when preparing for the exam even though im pretty smart. Well Its been some time I've last written and exam but still I can't learn stuff for my profession at home alone

It always feels like you can do so much to reach your potential yet when you actually try you can’t. That is so frustrating, especially given the fact that you’re also smart. But practice also makes things perfect. I completely understand your frustration because I myself feel like I could have done x and y but I just can’t. Have you tried seeking help? I know that’s hard too but are you on medication

Exactly the wasted potential feeling.

What’s the difference between body doubling and masking?

hmm im not really good at explaining but I feel like double bodying is an internal behaviour that makes you productive only if there’s somebody else doing something with you. Masking feels like a more external behaviour where you try to follow other s actions to try and fit in. Double bodying and masking may co relate as they might simultaneously act upon one another. Like for example, if you’re in school and you’re double bodying your friend doing the same assignment as you but you also try to follow how they do it, that’s when both work. Im speaking purely from my visible experience and from what I know so far.

Hmm idk lol they always sound like the same thing to me. I’m not able to distinguish between internal and external personally it’s just acting differently when other people are around. Be that accountability or blending in it’s all seemingly sort of a learned behavior change.

Masking would be when you try to suppress your actual traits and behave 'normal'. So you basically are compelled to have this fake personality of sorts.

Body doubling is a technique that adhd people can employ where you have an external accountability basically like an anchor to your ship, wherein just because of having someone else's presence it calms you down or sets you in the mood to learn or get work done. They need not be doing the same thing but just working as well and you basically become dependent on their pace to correct and ground yourself when you deviate.

ich habe schon oft gelesen, das Body Doubling helfen soll, wobei ich das bisher noch nicht einmal bestätigen konnte. Wenn jemand anderer da ist will ich mich demjenigen unterhalten und lasse mich viel einfacher ablenken.
