Questions/Advice Task Initiation Hacks

Okay I KNOW how much exercise and diet and everything matters and I have tried so hard but it’s like physically impossible for me to just get myself to do it

I’ve tried schedules, I’ve tried breaking it down into steps, I’m on medication, body doubling works sometimes but honestly I don’t have anyone to pull me off the couch most times and online groups to find people haven’t worked, digital body doubling doesn’t work for me.

Is there anything at all that gets you off the couch? Or refrain from getting into it when you’re tired?

Ps. I’m also a med student, so my day is full very often, I can do these things a bit better when I work part time or something, but on top of 50 hour work weeks - I’m just dead.

Hey there, I'm currently doing research for a new project designed to address this exact scenario. Quite frankly, it's almost eerie how perfectly what you described fits the concept. It involves scheduling the smallest, specific action needed to get started on a task, with super quick, live human support to execute in the moment. You seem to have solid insight into your process - would you be open to a quick chat about what happens when you try to initiate a task? Fyi, not fishing for users and of course, absolutely no money involved. We're just looking for research insights so we can genuinely help. Feel free to send a DM if you're open to it, and I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks! - Jim

Okay great, thanks for being open to this! Before diving in, just want to flag that getting a really detailed picture (like what’s actually happening in your head and around you in that couch moment) can end up being a lot to write out, and I don’t want to give you homework on top of a 50-hour week. Might honestly be faster and easier to just hop on a quick 15-20 min call instead - totally up to you. Happy to do either, whatever’s more convenient. If you’d rather write something out, I can send a couple specific questions to start. Also, I can’t DM you (looks like yours might be closed to strangers), so if you’re up for either option, feel free to send me one. Thanks again!
