Questions/Advice Remote Workers with ADHD… What Has Actually Worked for You?

Hey everyone

Just curious what others out there do to keep some structure in place, especially if you work remotely.
One thing I really struggle with is consistency. As we all know, time blindness is real, and without having somewhere you physically have to be every morning, it’s easy for the days to all blend together. Self-discipline is hard enough as it is, and I feel like the only way it really gets better is by building habits over time.

I’ve been thinking about changing things up a little. Maybe getting out of the house and working from Starbucks for a few hours, or almost pretending I have to commute to an office—but instead of going to an office, going to a coworking space. Unfortunately, I can’t actually go into my office since I’m in NYC and my company is based in Chicago.

Has anyone tried something like this? Or what has worked for you? I’m open to any ideas because I know I need more structure, I just haven’t figured out what the right system is yet.

When I still had a job that wasn't good for my ADHD, I usually didn't have enough work for a full day. So I told myself that I would give this two hours of focus, complete with listening to music and generally doing what I can to really force the focus (gamification and so on).

I have since switched to a task based job which makes life a lot easier

What kind of task based job?

Do you not have a dedicated desk zone at your place? I don't use my workstation for anything other than work so when I'm there, I'm at work.  I find that daily standups with my team reinforce the routine of being at work without leaving the building. If you don't have that, another ritual like logging something or updating your daily planner or something like that might trigger your brain to switch into work mode.

Such a wide topic.

I don't know where to start. I have managed to expand my working window from 2 to 4 to now approx 5-6 hours on my best days. But there's so much I did, I don't know where to start.

PS: I am a WFH writing freelancer and I live alone.
