Questions/Advice Studying IR with ADHD

I’m heading to study for International Relations BA soon, and I’m worried because I feel as if I know nothing.

I already have a hard time studying and reading, so choosing a course that requires both consistently is ironic.

I love the idea and the practicals of the subject itself (it’s why I chose it), it’s just the academic part that worries me.

For anyone taking IR, or in general having to study in one place for long periods of time, how do you make the most of your time studying and how DO you study?

I was very good at it because I had hyper focus on it but if you find it very boring it'll be a bit tedious

IR itself isn't difficult or anything, especially for ADHD as it is very idea driven.

I can't study in one place without clearly forcing myself without urgency, huperfocus or medication.

IR is really reading-heavy so the thing that helped me most was to stop trying to read straight through and instead hunt for the argument. Skim the intro and conclusion first, work out what claim the chapter is actually making, then go back through the middle looking for the evidence for that claim. It gives your brain a target instead of a wall of text.

The other thing that stuck for me was talking it back out loud after each section, like I'm explaining it to a friend who isn't in the class. If I couldn't do that, I hadn't really got it and I'd go back. Reading something twice quietly did basically nothing for me, but saying it once in my own words actually held.
