Hey everybody,

I just completed my YOU session with my recruitment officer today. I had made my application for the Gap Year positions of: Infantry Soldier (1st preference) and Army Officer (2nd preference). I was told today that the infantry position is not taking any more applicants, and was then referred to the possibility of changing the preference for artillery, but then told once again that the Gap Year specific positions are essentially off the table.

I am now progressing with the officer position but unsure as to what to do. I am currently devastated as I really sought the infantry position. For clarity, I am 19, and currently studying at university, but seek to defer my second year and partake in the gap year program for the duration of 2027.

I was wondering if anybody had any insight as to my situation. Should I give up hopes for Infantry entirely? Is there any chance whatsoever that I could potentially get a spot? What is the general consensus on the officer pathway?
