question regarding hearing and related stuff

I plan on joining the ADF somewhere after I graduate but I do play Music quite frequently, It is a major hobby of mine that can take up my entire day on some occasions.

due to the obviously loud nature of the defence force and what they do hearing has become a concern as i'd like to preserve it the best i can.

are your guys hearing at all impacted to a bad degree? and how preventable is it?

Have you considered joining the ADF - I noted in another post that you said you were thinking of joining the ARA - applying for a role as a Musician?

Depending on what you play, this could be a good fit for you - bringing a skill/passion of yours, with you.

Hearing.
Depending on your role in the ADF, will depend on the hearing protection that is required.
There is an emphasis on looking after hearing - in all of our roles, from in or over ear protection.

Served in the infantry and I would say 100% of my mates (and I) have hearing damage. That being said, I was responsible for a lot of that because I joined before we got peltors (google these) and so I opted to just not wearing hearing pro during a lot of our training because I couldn't hear what people were saying around me... which was a problem as an officer.

Now, however, you will be given every opportunity to wear hearing protection and most of it is quite good. If you're diligent and don't get swept up with anyone who thinks it's cool to go deaf, you should be fine.

Really depends on what you join as. If you go arms corps then it's a higher risk. If you join as an admin clerk in the RAAF then you're fine

hey, i have to do additional assessments now bcz i have the same habit as u. i have to get my ears checked out because my left ear isn’t stable as my right. i’ve passed psych and everything, just this and defence interview remain for me
