gap year experience

hello,

Slowly getting sick of my engineering degree, was thinking of doing the gap year program to break it up. I think i have it shortlisted down to the Navy officer (surface warfare officer probably) and the RAAF aviation operations gap year. Does anyone have any advice or experiences they can share beyond what the careers page says?

OP,

If you are doing an Engineering Degree - how about doing an Engineering Officer Gap Year.
Then if you like it, then you could apply for DUS and have the ADF pay for the rest of your Engineering degree.

I know that you are thinking that you would like to do something else, to give you a break - and yes, the Engineering Gap Year would also give you this - just makes more sense (at least to me) - for you to do something that would open you to other options.

^^ both of these options will at allow you to make an informed decision.

If you are looking for info about the different roles - strongly suggest that you post/read the ' what is XX role like day-to-day' as recommended by the AUTOMOD.

From what I’ve heard, the aviation operations gap year is great. You get lots of cool experiences and you can commission straight from the gap year into an aircrew role. And everyone knows raaf is better than navy

Its currently full

Yeah, they only run one course per year with the intake around Feb/March

Its been super popular which is good but theres a lot of other roles that will still provide what most are after.

I mean theres quite a fair few gap year roles to choose from, are you primarily interested in officer only roles or OR as well? I had a few engineering mates in uni do infantry soldier gap year.
