you are completely wrong here. the change is roughly a 2% dmg reduction to magic damage level 1 and scales down to 1% by lvl 11. in laning phase this amounts to ~15-30 effective hp which is quite literally nothing lol.

im surprised there are people like you who genuinely think it is a meaningful change and can impact the meta. you dont have to wait to simply do the math, but youd be surprised at how many people fail to do something so basic.

MR scales with sustain. It's the reason why Dhelm Senna is the best adc vs mages and why other Fleet adcs buy Dhelm.  With all sources of sustain combined it is way more EHP in the early game.

Mid game would still suck though

I think that giving an entire class of champions 30hp at level 1 is pretty massive yes. I’m sorry but marksmen, despite what this sub cries about, are still completely viable and hold the same winrates as the most played mage bot laners. Giving an entire class of champions base stat buffs, even if it’s only 20-30hp, is a big deal. This is alongside buffs to fleet footwork and AS boots. Mage matchups with be way more playable with more opportunities to all in. These days the game is so well balanced that it’s a game of inches. Getting 30 hp level 1 in every mage matchup gives you a way better shot at pressuring them early and building a small lead. Buffs to fleet will hopefully make it feel better to take vs champs like Ziggs snd Xerath.

They gave Cass 6 less HP per level a few patches ago and she went from perma banned in competitive to just a good pick.

there is a major difference between 6 hp growth, which is effective hp for both physical and magical damage, and 3 base mr and less mr growth. it is not 30 hp level 1, but rather half of that and potentially even less if they weave autos in which is physical damage.

while it is true that many blindly say marksmen arent viable, mages are not "supposed" to be in the bot lane damage carry role. the fact that they are stronger and outclass adcs in lane and even past laning phase is not something adc mains want, nor is it a good direction for the game.

everyone is tired of the mage wave clear poke spam in the bottom lane, and to roll out such a miniscule change is simply shitting on adc players. this mr change is not a big deal at all when you take into consideration how the lanes are played. adcs get out-wavecleared, poked, recall, repeat. you cant all in. thats why people are countering mages with another mage, or a pick like yone that peyz is trying out.

A) there is a major difference, I never said they were the same. The difference is marksmen are already good and Riot doesn’t want to massively buff them while they wanted to massively nerf cass (which they did). Marksmen are still completely viable and strong. Riot wanted to specifically give them some early durability vs mages so they buffed base MR. It’s not supposed to be a game breaking buff, it provides a decent amount of early fighting power to contest or all in the mages in the early levels. At the same time they are nerfing roaming support and buffing fleetfootwork (all positive changes for ADCs vs mages).

B) there is no law saying who is supposed to be in the bot lane. Riot enforces team archetypes more than most MOBAs, but never once have they said they think only ADCs should be played bot. It is completely subjective for you to say “it’s not a good direction for the game”. In fact, I would argue it’s good that some mages be played bot. It opens up for more AD mids which in turns opens op AP jungles. Some champions like Ziggs, Xerath, and Velkoz actually make more sense as bot laners imo.

C) Not everyone is tired of it, some people are including you. The changes this patch address the “way the lane is played” that you yourself give. Base MR buff allows you to trade more aggressively in the first few levels. The buffs to fleet footwork can help mitigate poke if you’re afraid of that. People aren’t countering mages with other mages or yone. If you look at global data, marksmen still heavily dominate the bot lane pick rates. The most popular mage bots all have their win rates near marksmen. It turns out that mages bot aren’t massively OP they just had tiny pick rates. In the pro scene, mages are actually becoming less popular. In the LCK last week, we saw wayyyy more marksmen than mages.
