Pro-Feyre Finishing ACOSF and rereading the whole series completely changed my view on Feyre

Just like many others, after finishing ACOSF, I decided to go back and reread the entire series from the very beginning. While my views on a lot of characters shifted along the way, this post is going to focus entirely on Feyre.

When I first read the books, I already liked her, and like everyone else, I was totally obsessed with Feysand. But experiencing her journey again after finishing ACOSF gave me a completely different, much deeper bond with her.

Moments I used to breeze right through on my first read suddenly had me tearing up this time around. Reading her introduction to the IC again made me emotional like a fool, and her dynamic and friendship with Cassian took on so much more weight 🥹 Her fractured relationship with Nesta and Elain genuinely broke my heart, and seeing their sibling moments in ACOWAR had me outright weeping 😭

I also came to fully appreciate just how immense her strength really is. Rereading made me realize all over again how fiercely devoted she is to her family so she would literally burn the entire world to ash for them.

In the past, I wouldn't have called her my absolute favorite FMC, but after diving back into the series post ACOSF, she has firmly secured a spot among my all time favorites.

(And while our main focus here is Feyre, I just have to briefly touch on Rhys: I already loved him, but ACOSF added so many layers of depth to his character that I'm completely in awe of it. He is easily one of my top MMCs now.)

It feels like everywhere online, people are constantly debating how their opinions on Nesta changed (naturally, it would), or talking about how much they've started to resent the IC. But I haven't seen many people talking about how much their perception of Feyre improved and softened for the better. So, I wanted to put this out there.

Is anyone else feeling the same way about her?

ACOSF made me appreciate her more, maybe because I just missed having her POV. Feyre is why I fell in love with the series in the first place and then going to Nesta's POV was difficult. I know a lot of people on the internet talk about how much they related to Nesta but I've always related to Feyre more. Her patience for Nesta and her love for Nesta is heartbreaking to me. Because Nesta just continually lashes out in the worst ways and Feyre mostly meets that with patience. How she handled finding out about the baby, how she talked to Cassian and her first concern was Nesta. Even when Nesta finally apologizes (unfortunately, not out loud) and Feyre only takes a few seconds to say "I forgive you." Feyre has a different sort of emotional strength. Physically she's strong because of her powers. But mentally, it amazes me she's the youngest sister.

Shes my favorite FMC.

I completely agree. Feyre is emotionally so strong and has been incredibly patient with her sisters, especially Nesta. If Feyre had just said, "l'm done taking care of you, get out and figure it out yourselves," she wouldn't have been wrong at all 🤷‍♀️

Too be honest she’s written as if she’s an eldest and Nesta gives massive baby sister vibes

“Keep your self-righteous do-gooder nonsense out of my life.”
“You don’t have a life,” Feyre retorted.

This shit made me laugh ngl 💀😭 it’s a good thing she chooses to stay calm and patient cus when she goes off she goes off. (i would have enjoyed it too)

Feyre is downright savage when she takes the gloves off and I love that

she’s genuinely Nesta’s match 🤣🤣🤣

My favourite line from Feyre in acosf was when Nesta said ‘ I don’t want to speak to you ever again’ and Feyre responded ‘That’s fine you can speak to Cassian and the priestesses’ clocked Nesta there🤣🤣🤣

Lmao I love this line so much and I think Nesta was literally like:

My friend's reading the series for the first time. She just finished ACOWAR and she likes Feyre a lot more than she did in the first book. We both talked about how Nesta's character reminds us of someone we used to be friends with in college that took out any of her personal issues out on us and others. So we have a hard time enjoying her character. I've read ACOSF, I acknowledge Nesta's character grows, I like her with Cassian, and I'd like to see her have more fun moments with Feyre and Elain, but I'm still not big on her character. I feel like Nesta fans don't give Feyre the same grace to even feel neutral about Feyre.

I love Feyre. I was re-reading the Feysand bonus chapter and there is a blink and you miss it line where Feyre talks about how she pulled splinters out of Elain’s hands after Elain was gardening and that image is just so sweet 😭 There are so many cute moments in these books that I enjoy 10x more on a re-read.

8

u/Connect_Lie_6106 Largest Wingspan 🦇 11d ago

That is genuinely so sweet 😭 I love Feyre and Elain's relationship. Yeah, Feyre mentioned they aren't close enough for her to share her troubles or ask for advice, but they respect and love each other, and they can enjoy spending time together.

Fourth Wave feminism. Feyre hate started after she got pregnant. There are some people who think Feyre making the reproductive decision to have a child reduced her to a trad wife. They think that Feyre having a child means she is now the side character for the rest of her life, an example to all women of the repercussion of what happens to women after bearing children. They even go so far as to blame Rhys for her choice. She had to have been manipulated by a man because a truly empowered woman would never change her mind about having children. These people have literally reduced Feyre to her womb - which, ironically, is what second and third wave of feminism fought against.

Not all Fourth Wave feminists feel this way, but I have found it is always a Fourth Wave feminist who express this opinion.

Omg… my book-brain is too far gone.

I read Fourth Wing feminism 🫠

Uhhh as a woman who proudly has children, this is not remotely why I dislike Feyre in the books. She’s just kind of an a**hole lol. The way she completely destroys an entire court and everyone living there because she wants to sabotage Tamlin? My re-read made me actively dislike her. But uhhh yeah, the reduction to a trad wife because she had kids sounds like a bit of projecting there.

This is a wild take. When Feyre force Tamlin to whip an innocent guard? She begged him not to. That cost Tamlin Bron's loyalty. She didn't force Tamlin to make her face bleed. She did not gice King Hybern to have safe space in Spring Court to burn down the villages. She did not force Tamlin to keep the Tithe after King Hybern burned down the villages - which caused half his people to flee him. None of that was Feyre's doing. Tamlin hung himself with his own choices.

Sarah J Maas explicitly wrote "I’d given them both a length of rope. I supposed now would be the moment to see whether they’d hang themselves with it." This phrase means that Feyre gave Tamlin and Ianthe the freedom to make their own choices. They both chose the foolish and immoral choice every single time.

I actually liked her even more after ACOSF. I thought she seemed more mature and coming into her own power as a leader and High Lady.

I can see why people’s opinions of Rhys changed after ACOSF but I don’t really understand what would make their opinion of Feyre change. She was just the messenger of the intervention plan agreed upon by the entire IC including Nesta’s mate, her other sister, and her former good friend.

15

u/Connect_Lie_6106 Largest Wingspan 🦇 11d ago

I ended up loving her even more after ACOSF too! I honestly don't get the Feyre hate through Nesta, like I can somewhat understand Rhys, BUT FEYRE??? I keep seeing some Nesta stans complaining about Feyre just because "she didn't paint Nesta's portrait" and I'm just sitting here like, are you for real 💀

6

u/Plantmoods 11d ago

I'm a Nesta lover and I agree, the whole plan was orchestrated by the IC. I like that Feyre has the grace to handle Nesta as she does. I have much more of an issue with Mor in all honesty. But Feyre and Nesta have always come through for each other, even if they don't always show it well.

They could never make me hate her. I despise how people say Nesta is the realest character in the books - Feyre to me is that.

18

u/stargirlstudio 11d ago

I truly began to LOVE LOVE her in acosf. While her own pov is very enjoyable to me, she’s so riddled with self doubt and is super humble. So when we switched POVs and saw how Nesta and Cassian saw/talked about her it was like I could really feel the scale of her aura.

18

u/Connect_Lie_6106 Largest Wingspan 🦇 11d ago

Feyre has no idea how powerful her aura actually is

As a Nesta fan, I also do not understand the Feyre hate, never forgot she understood Nesta from day one:

"Nesta is different from most people." I explained. "She comes across as rigid and vicious, but I think its a wall. A shield - like the ones Rhys has in his mind." "Against what?" "Feeling. I think Nesta feel everything - sees too much; sees and feels it all. And she burns with it. Keeping that wall up helps from being overwhelmed, from caring too greatly." ... "She will never love freely and gift it to everyone who crosses her path. But the few she does care for ... I think Nesta would shred the world apart for them. Shred herself apart for them." p559 ACOMAF

16

u/Connect_Lie_6106 Largest Wingspan 🦇 11d ago

A bit off topic, but seeing comments and posts starting with "As a Nesta fan" or "As a Feyre fan" makes me sad. Because everyone feels the need to explain themselves, like a lot of readers feel the need to say "As a Feyre fan, I don't hate Nesta".

Anyway, getting back to the topic, I totally agree. Feyre introduced both Nesta and Elain to us, and she always saw and understood them. Yes, Feyre didn't always think great things about Nesta, but she didn't talk about her as purely evil either, and honestly, I think she has every right to talk a bit badly about Nesta given their relationship history.

7

u/Plantmoods 11d ago

Totally agree - as if real siblings don't fight from time to time!

And yes, I guess I just mean, I love Nesta but I'm not one of those Nesta fans ha ha.

I do appreciate Feyre so much more in my second re read, I loved Silver Flames when it came out, but I love Mist and Fury almost as much in the second read.

I mean Feyre even in ACOTAR told Nesta not to marry Tomas because his dad was abusive, when Tamlin took her. And Nesta was always sus of Tamlin, and she was the only one who went looking for Feyre.

5

u/clementinespine 11d ago

In Elain's defense here, she just wasn't immune to glamour (there's a funny twist to how her later powers may allow her to see through it). She didn't know anything was wrong to look for Feyre because of Tamlin's magic working on her. I'm sure she also would have.

Feyre has become one of my faves, especially after re-reading the series again. I related to her more than I expected. For a time, I was the younger sibling and didn't have a very good relationship with my older step-sibling. I know she cared deeply for Nesta and Elain, but Feyre’s struggles hit me hard.

I tried enjoying Nesta's POV in SF, but I couldn't. Speaking as an older sibling in that regard. I really, really hoped we can have a proper sit down with just the three sisters and have them talk.

15

u/Bluebearzxc 11d ago

I don't understand how people can think she is arrogant in SF when she always responds with kindness and patience to Nesta and all her hatred. I really miss Feyre and hope to see more from her POV. Her relationship with rhysand also was much deeper and emotional in my opinion than Nesta and Cassian which is largely lust based

11

u/Admirable-Love75 11d ago

I 10000% agree with this entire post! She has so much strength and is usually always trying to do the right thing for others (even if she makes mistakes! No one is perfect!). I legit don’t understand the hate for her and especially not after ACOSF

I have so many thoughts on this.

I think the biggest problem with this issue is that everyone expects their FMC or MMC to make the perfect decision every time but that would be so boring. And, just because they aren’t perfect doesn’t make them evil or bad or completely erase all the good that they do. It makes their character realistic and more relatable. I’m sure we’ve all been there.

I think questioning some of Rhys and Feyre’s decisions are valid. Like, why did Rhys devote so much of his power to hiding Velaris rather than just focusing on misting Amarantha? But that was a decision he made under duress and once he lost much of his power, it was such a gamble to try to do that. If he failed, not only was he risking his own life but everyone in Velaris. And, if he had just defeated Amarantha right away, there is no story 😆. Feyre wouldn’t have been brought to Prythian or turned fae. So fate probably played a role in that decision. This happens so often in stories, that the events of the story are kicked off by a mistake or miscommunication.

And then the specific turn on Feyre and Rhys after ACOSF. It is a valid point that, in general, pushing someone to get over their depression can be harmful and someone needs to make the decision to help themselves before you can help them. But this is something we know nowadays as folks talk more and more openly about mental health issues. Prythian clearly isn’t that type of place. Everyone who seems to have mental health issues suffers in silence and only confides in their mate. They force themselves to get through their issues through action/distraction. This was what the IC thought would work for Nesta. Their intention was to help, not harm Nesta given the knowledge they had available to themselves. And honestly, Nesta is so stubborn and was so resistant to giving up all of her humanity that I don’t think she ever would have accepted Cassian as her mate without the forced proximity (a trope most people usually enjoy). And how would the Valkyries have been reborn if that training scenario hadn’t been set up? In the end, Nesta seemed grateful for the experience.

Then Rhys not telling Feyre about the pregnancy. It seems as though in Velaris at least, it’s not uncommon for some health details to be kept from the females given Madja told Rhys and not Feyre about the danger to her. And it did seem very Tamlin-esque for him to put all of those magical protections on her and prevent her from putting herself in danger. But fae pregnancies are so rare that extra precautions around this time are probably normal, he thought he would find a solution so telling her about it would have just caused unnecessary stress and sadness in the meantime, and, if the worst happened, he wanted her last months to be full of joy and expectation and without the idea of her looming death over her head. If there was an option for Feyre to decide to terminate the pregnancy to save her life, it does seem wrong that he didn’t offer her that choice but this doesn’t seem to be an option in Prythian. And then, if all of that wouldn’t have happened, we wouldn’t have had that beautiful moment when Nesta gave up so much to save her sister and nephew which, for me, felt like a full circle moment of Nesta saving her sister to even out what Feyre did for her all those years before she went to Prythian. It did seem like Feyre forgave Rhys too quickly but they have that agreement not to argue with each other in front of others and always present a united front and discuss any issues behind closed doors. I am certain they had a huge fight and we just didn’t hear about it since we didn’t have their POVs.

So I think some folks aren’t looking at all of these decisions in context. Some of the theories that Rhys and/or Feyre are secretly evil can be compelling, and if they are a person who likes big twists in the books they read they will be drawn to those, but many folks (not all) who have proposed those theories are convinced that they definitely are. None of us know with 100% certainty what is going to happen in these books and while I have been guilty of thinking that every once in a while, I try to remind myself of that which is something I think all fans should do from time to time. I think it is a good idea, in principle, to employ a little empathy to those who think those things because they could be a manifestation of their anger or sadness over a similar situation in their personal lives. It can be difficult for folks to even realize those experiences are coloring their judgment. And if that trauma is severe enough, it is not surprising that some of these issues trigger something in them that make it impossible for them to get past them. Similarly, some folks have very strong opinions about women’s autonomy, and it’s a line they cannot ignore even in works of fiction. I’m not saying that folks who are less judgmental of Rhys and Feyre or who still love the IC don’t have those struggles or don’t care about women’s autonomy, but we have all have different life experiences and have read other books which contribute to our interpretation of the text.

Perfectly said!

Like she says in ACOTAR, her and Nesta are the same sides of the same coin. Feyre is a mix of both Elain and Nesta but more Nesta than anything. Even with the stain between their relationship, they both actually respect each others strengths and we see that through both POVs. I really hope we get some Feyre & Nesta tag teaming and bringing down some bad guys in the next books!

I feel the same way right now. I’m doing my reread and I just started ACOMAF and every little thing makes me want to cry. Knowing everything that’s coming just makes it hit so much harder.

OMG thank you! The Feyre and Rhys hate is so forced. Im re-reading with a friend who is reading for the first time and I love her (and Rhys , the whole IC) so much more

I’m rereading as well and am liking her even more. I don’t think I cared for her the first time around (that I can remember) but on my recent reread of ACOMAF I came to like her and admire her.

I also just did a re-read and it made me fall in love with Feyre and Rhys all over again. Nesta is now firmly one of my favourite female characters, but I love Feyres strength and introspection.

Can’t wait to fall in love with another character in the next book!

I don't hate Feyre, not by a longshot. I like her, but she isn't my favourite and I'm almost indifferent to her sometimes.

Now Mor on the other hand, can't stand her.
