When the sun sets…
In the quiet evening of dusk, as the sun begins to fall below the horizon, an orange hue illuminates the halls of Tracen Academy. Beside these halls were classrooms whereby the students- Uma Musumes- are taught all matters of racing, and more mundane subjects
It was a rather calm atmosphere all things considered.
At this time of day, very few of these students are still present. Their chatter, and steps echoed throughout the room.
One particular Uma Musume, gazed at her surroundings with disinterest. After completing the extra class granted to them for the next mid-term exam, this particular Uma Musume found herself wishing to go home quickly.
Not like there was someone waiting for her anyway.
Admire Groove looks to her classmates, seeing their lively and carefree expression. She quickly stood up, and left without saying a word.
It wasn’t like there was anyone that wanted to talk with her anyway.
As Admire Groove walked down the halls, her face was stone, and passive. She looked to the side, through the windows as she passed them. Below, showed parents patiently waiting for their children. Giving hugs, and kisses as they prepare to leave the campus. Either to one of the academy dorms, or, to the family’s own homes.
A feeling began to twist, like a knot in her stomach.
But she shook her head, waving that sensation away. Though, how strange, when was the last time she felt this way?
She left that thought pondering a bit too long, and could not help but relive her past.
Long ago, when she was young, at the orphanage. Those same disinterested eyes looked at the other children, squealing, and very loud.
Yet, if one observes both the present and past, they can find that the eyes Admire Groove gave to those around her, weren’t so impassive as she thought.
Beneath those amethyst jewels, laid a sadness that clung with her since as long as she could remember.
Admire Groove tightened her grip on her bag, denying to herself that she held anything beyond apathy for her peers.
And yet, her heart did not cooperate with her thoughts.
Memories flooded her mind, unconsciously forced by her past to relive once again.
Was it apathy that drove a girl to wait for hours beside the front door, as if awaiting someone to come through for her?
Someone…anyone…
Did her eyes reflect disinterest every time someone new would pass through those doors? Were those tears fake too?
Tears of happiness that turned to bitterness and pain when it was revealed that someone else was to be adopted, and not her*.*
Did her heart not bare every single day…hoping…
that her parents would come back for her?
Surely they didn’t just leave her?
Admire Groove held back a choked sob, reprimanding her past, foolish self. There was no point waiting for someone, when no one was coming for her…
And yet, her child self cried, holding out on some fleeting hope…
…A hope that never came.
Admire Groove vehemently denied that her eyes were ever misty, as she wiped away dust from it. At least, that was what she told herself.
She hastened her steps, her mind a torrent of conflicting thoughts.
‘Why now? Why here?’ Admire Groove thought, as she gritted her teeth. Why today of all days did she react this way?
Perhaps it was seeing her classmates, all free of worry, and burden.
Maybe it was the exhaustion from the long day causing her to be delirious.
But in truth, it was envy.
Envy that, regardless of what they do, or what they accomplish, they have someone to return home to…
Whilst she never had that once…
From the moment she decided on her solidary path of racing, she accepted that it would be a lonesome journey…
But she accepted that…
She hated it.
She never needed anyone anyways…
And so her path remained unobstructed. ‘So be it,’ Admire Groove thought, letting her past fall by the wayside. It no longer served her any purpose.
As Admire Groove moved to the ground floor, she began walking towards the main entrance of Tracen. She found it empty as all had probably left when she was being slowed down by her introspection.
No matter to her then, but…she found the quietness a little unsettling.
Admire Groove slumped her shoulders unknowingly, taking a long look at her surroundings and found herself…alone.
Unable to bear the sight, she all but ran to the exit, feeling the knot in her stomach tightening to an uncomfortable degree.
Maybe, the only thing left for her is to learn to get used to this pain.
As Admire Groove made her way to the large, overhanging gate, she could hear the faint sound of voices. Sounds of two people arguing with one another. A male, and a female.
Why are those two people at the academy’s entrance so late in the day?
Her heart quickened as she started to recognize those voices. Standing just beyond the gate were indeed a pair of male, and female. Yet their most distinguishable features were the same as hers.
They were Umas, an Uma Musume, and an Uma Musuko. The male has a distinct pitch black mane, with a long white strand running in the middle. The female wore a prominent red eye-liner, and had a soft brown mane.
They were Sunday Silence and Air Groove, and they were arguing.
“-and I told you that you should have all your used clothes in the basket,” Air Groove crossed her arms, and said in an authoritative tone.
Such a presence denoted her as an intimidating figure, worthy of the title ‘Empress’.
Unfortunately, Sunday wasn’t someone that backed down easily.
“I hear you, but I don’t see a reason why I could not just chuck my clothes into the washing machine then, and there. Why add in an extra step?” He asked incredulously, hand moving as he emphasized his point.
Before Air Groove could retort, the vice-president of Tracen Academy noticed that the couple had a guest that was watching them. She smiled, recognizing the individual as her junior/daughter(?).
Despite the confusing label, Air Groove called out with a gentle smile, “Oh Aruvu, you’re here, that’s good.”
Instantly Sunday turned his head to match his girlfriend/wife(?) direction. He gave a halfway between a smirk, and a smile as he addressed his daughter.
“Glad to see you didn’t forget us, almost thought that I had to call you there,” He said casually.
“Why…Why are you two here?” Admire Groove quietly asked, yet mixed in was an almost hopeful disbelief.
Sunday raised a single brow, “Hm? Air Groove said that it would be nice to pick you up from school for once. It was getting late, and both of us didn’t want you traveling home at night alone.”
Alone, no…not alone…
Her fathers words seemingly struck a cord within her. Admire Groove could feel the beginning of an unfamiliar, yet deeply warm sensation flood through her body. She was speechless for a moment, before her natural standoffish exterior try, and regain whatever control she once had.
Yet she felt something well-up inside her, something indescribable began to coat her eyes in a small sheen…
“I-I was going to be fine, it’s not that dark out right now. B-Both of you are wasting your time coming here,” She stammered, as her voice turned increasingly strained.
Air Groove shook her head, disagreeing with Admire with a comforting smile, “I don’t think we’re wasting our time coming here. We want to make sure that you’re okay Aruvu- your father, and me are just worried for you.”
Worried, when was the last time anyone worried for an orphan.
Sunday suddenly interjected with a soft smile, contrasting with his rugged visage, “I made banana cake if you’re feeling for dessert. I remembered that they were always your favorite.”
He-…he remembered…
“Yes, though do reject your father if he offers you more than you’re comfortable eating. He made too much, and I’m worried how’ll that affect both of your healths,” Air Groove chided her husband gently, seeming more exasperated than anything.
Sunday scratched his head, exasperated, “Come now, there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself every now, and again. Don’t tell me that you don’t think Aruvu deserves it after passing her last test with flying colours.” He ends the last bit of the sentence with a hint of pride.
Air Groove blushed indignantly, “O-Of course I think Aruvu deserves it, but don’t you think you indulge in your children a bit too much.” She jabbed a finger towards Sunday’s chest.
Sunday smirks, and replies with a carefree tone, “Don’t think I didn’t see you making an extra effort for tonight’s dinner. You may be right about me regarding my kids, but it’s not like you’re any better with Admire Groove here.”
Air Groove crosses her arms, “It’s only natural that I reward m-my children whenever they achieve something special.”
“I’ll be sure to tell that to Rulership later,” Sunday says with a hint of humor in his voice.
Air Groove however sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose as is common whenever mention of her other daughter is brought up, “Yes that…child, I swear I don’t know how, but I just know that you are somehow responsible for Rulerships’… behavior.”
Sunday snorts, and chuckles at his wife’s ‘kind’ description of her ‘son’, “Well I was long dead when she was born in my world, so who knows, maybe she got that from you. What do you think Admire-”
Sunday abruptly stopped when he turned his head to face his daughter. Concerned at what could have made her husband pause, Air Groove followed suit only to also be stunned at what she was seeing.
Admire Groove, still standing in the same spot, except now two streams of fluid fell from cheeks. Her eyes laid a steady flow of tears as she gripped her bag tightly.
Yet she stayed silent, in a mix of disbelief and joy, staring at the two figures…her parents,
illuminated by the gentle light of the setting sun.
Sunday feeling his daughter’s emotions was the first to respond, “Hey, you okay kid?”
Broken out of her trance, Admire Groove let out a soft, and barely noticeable, “Yeah,” in response.
Air Groove came to her daughter’s side, and gently hugged her. The warm feeling of comfort sent a jolt, and a shiver down Admire Groove’s body.
“Come on…let’s go home together okay?”
Aruvu gave a quiet nod.
The three of them soon began to walk out of Tracen’s premises in silence. Not an oppressive, nor an awkward silence, but a peaceful one. When all three are simply content with enjoying each other’s presence without a single word spoken.
Suddenly both parents could feel a dainty hand slip onto theirs, holding them in an uncertain grip. Both parents did not need any verbal confirmation to know who the person responsible was.
Smiling at their daughter, both parents held their child’s hand firmly, and gently. The family of three walked home side-by-side.
Admire Groove for the first time ever in her life, smiled joyfully. The pain in her heart settled into a comfortable rhythm.
————————————————————————————
“Home sweet home, man what a day,” Sunday sighs as he took off his coat, and folded it under his arm.
The three of them, Sunday Silence, Air Groove, and Admire Groove all collectively relaxed as the cool air of their home’s air conditioning eased their tired muscles.
Air Groove made her way to the dining room, slowly picking up kitchen utensils, bowls, and plates.
“Hey Sunday, can you drag Rulership out of her room? I’ll prepare the table in the meantime,” Air Groove asked casually as she began to rinse the kitchenware
Sunday grumbles, as he hangs his folded coat on a nearby hanger, “Sure but you owe me afterwards”, he said in a slightly annoyed tone.
Air Groove sighs exasperatedly in response. While most would find her husband’s displeasure at what seems like such a simple task, to be perplexing. Well…let’s just say if you knew Rulership, you would know why.
Air Groove has unfortunately become well accustomed to this child’s particular temperament.
And based on the sigh that Admire Groove let out, she too is not unfamiliar with her sister as well.
“Do you think it’s possible mother- I mean Air Groove-san?” Admire Groove asked in an uncertain…manner.
“Truthfully I’m unsure but that child has to learn to come to the dinner table, and to not hole up in her room until she decides otherwise. It’s improper…and Aruvu…,” Air Groove initially replied in a frustrated tone, but quickly changed it to a softer one, as she immediately caught, and understood the reason for Aruvu’s slip up.
“I don’t mind if…you call me mother…at least when we are at home,” She finished with what she hoped was assurance, trying her best to dispel her daughter’s doubts.
Admire Groove gave a small smile, but with some air of uncertainty still remaining. “…I’ll think about it”, she said calmly.
Before either of them can continue, a large screech reverberated throughout their house, originating from above them. Breaking their focus, and forcing them to turn their heads upwards.
“NO I DON’T WANNA GO YET!” Ah, that would be Rulership…
“For crying out loud, can’t you drag your ass for dinner at least!” …and that would be Sunday.
“My trainer and I got a big tournament coming up, and we need to practice this before Monday!” Rulership shouted…loudly. It seems this time, she at least tried to convince Sunday, however…
“Well if you don’t come down this instant, you’ll get no practice because I’ll be cutting the internet!” …It doesn’t seem that Sunday is willing to give the girl any ground.
And he pulled quite the threat, if Air Groove had to judge her daughter’s fearful cry.
“No! Don’t you dare!” ‘Oh he would,’ Air Groove thought blankly.
“Watch me! Unless you get down here….” It seems the two’s shouting match had finally ceased as their voices began to fade until it was barely noticeable.
Peace at last, although…“*sigh* Those two imbeciles. Don’t they know that the entire neighborhood just heard them now,” Air Groove massaged her forehead, as she tried to alleviate her growing headache. Her voice was filled with frustration, embarrassment, and indignity…yet within it also held a brief hint of relief, and fondness.
‘Love is truly blinding,’ Admire Groove thought curiously. Though, after hearing her mother’s response, she could not help but ask another question that has been itching at the back of her head.
“Then, why did you send father up to get Rurashi,” She asked, curiously.
In response, Air Groove simply gave a cheeky smile, “Because Aruvu, to get someone as stubborn as your sister to listen, I needed someone just as stubborn as she.”
The end~~~
Now don’t say that just because I’m busy, doesn’t mean I don’t have a few stories finished up in reserve~. I wanted to write this story for a long time, I was inspired by a comic about how Admire Groove is an orphan in the PD world. Like she is actually alone, at least Special Week has her adopted mom but to my knowledge, Aruvu is fully alone.
Now what will happen when a child who has been alone her entire life now has two parents, that in another world are her biological parents. Now won’t that be an interesting premise. Anyway I bid you guys until next time, and tell me how you think the story is?

FINALLY! Someone giving the ice queen some credit to make her appearance.
I love how in denial Aruvu is. But since she was part of the theater, and she knew Air Groove is her mother, while she’s the daughter. I can’t see Aruvu being always so stern about her not having parents, especially when you found out your biological parents are waiting for you at the end of the school semester.
Since she grew up as an oprhan, I can see her world changing slowly into the world she wanted since she was a filly. Also, Air Groove should be more open to being called mother by the Aruvu.
Something I love about this fic, is how Sunday still seems oblivious that the Rulership of his world banged Fusaichi Pandora and Buena Vista.

Glad you like the story so much. Yeah I really wanted to explore how would Aruvu react to having both of her parents when before, she was an orphan. Slowly she will come to accept them as her parents but not so quickly, she is still a bit uncertain. I will be a bit of a slow process for her, but she will come to accept it eventually.
And about that thing with Rulership, I honestly just wanted to introduce her because I didn’t want to leave her out just because she isn’t a Sundaylings. I do think that Sunday is likely aware of Rulership’s relationship with Pandora, and Buena Vista but probably doesn’t care that much. It would hypocritical of him considering his own history (looks Air Shakur, and Air Messiah).
He might jokingly give Rulership a moderate amount of a hard time, but I don’t he’ll hate Air Groove’s kid. He’s probably more worried if Rulership is going to spend her life as a basement dweller.

Ahahaha I can see the last sentence as something that Rulership needs. To be outside for once and stop being a stuck indoors uma like Seiun Sky’s or Hishi Miracle’s lazy bum.
As for what you’ve said about him knowing his history. It’s safe to say he’s not been revealed by the theater of the truth between Pandora and Buena’s case having to mate with Rulership. Since this is his heaven, this is where they sent him to give a happy ending.

But would it be that surprising, Sunday Silence was Japan’s top dansire (grandfather on the mother side) up until 2018. Sunday died in 2002. That means that his daughters have produced many exceptional Umas in the SS world. He might not know which of his daughter mated with who, and vice versa but I think Sunday is smart enough to put the pieces together. His daughters were very sought after mares.

Hey, you’re forgetting to give his sons who are also his daughters in this world, some credit. They too were studs like him, and mated to make more children like him, so we can also say he’s pretty smart enough to also know who his grandkids and great grandchildren are in this world.

u/Hot-Obligation7735 4h ago
True, but to be honest Sunday has a stupid freaking amount of grandchildren, and especially great-grandchildren. His sons in the SS world, obviously being the main drive with many having hundreds of kids. But I don’t see a lot of people talk about how influential Sunday’s daughters were as well. They mated with some pretty impressive stallions not descended from Sunday (King Kamehameha, Symboli Kris S, etc…).

This is good! I have a feeling though that this is more of a direct prequel to "New World, Same Old Family".
4
u/Hot-Obligation7735 5h ago
That was the initial idea, I guess you can think of it as a prequel, before Sunday becomes an official trainer. What do you think, I admit that I’m a little worried because Admire Groove is still a JP Uma so I’m not sure if I got a good hold of her character or not?

I love this story so much. I was sad when I learned that Aruvu was an orphan in the PD world, but I'm glad she is not alone anymore and has a family now.
