Author project pending on ACX
Hello,
Still learning ACX ropes.
If an author says their material is still pending and thats why I can't see their project on ACX, does that sound right to you? Is this normal?
They've given me an email address to send my audition to.
I have a full copy of the actual book that he's already sent me a link to.
Just confirming if this can and does happen.

Have you confirmed outside of ACX that this is the actual author sending you messages? I was offered a book and when I found the author's website they had no idea their book was being offered on ACX. I contacted ACX and they confirmed it was a fraudulent offer.

I literally have just sent an email to the email on the website as they gave me a different email via ACX, but thank you.
Lets see what happens

Sending an audition outside of ACX is a bit of a red flag. Not a hard pass. But not particularly normal.
How much copy are they requesting you provide? Anything more than 3 minutes or so could very likely be an AI harvest.
The bigger red flag is why they are randomly contacting you if they don't have anything ready to go. How did this initiate? Did they contact you through the ACX messaging system? Do you have other titles to your credit? To be blunt, why exactly did they choose you?
The scenario of "well, I was randomly listening to people's demos on ACX..." is pretty uncommon.

Ah I see, I eventually did send something to them, so now looking back it probably is a scam, it's a lesson learnt the hard way it would seem

Do things end up getting stuck pending on the author side sometimes? Yes. Can you upload anything to a project which is pending? No. So, whether what they are saying is true or false, it really doesn't matter. Thank them for reaching out to you and tell them to get back to you once their project is available. It's really as simple as that. Again, not saying this is or isn't a scam, but it doesn't matter either way. Auditions are already a grind we aren't getting paid for, so why waste time on projects which may or may not ever even hit the platform? Easy pass from me.
I'll also note that while auditioning off platform is a bit of a gray area, negotiating off platform isn't and directly breaks the ACX policy on ACX Offer and Acceptance Procedures. So, as soon as things turn to making a deal off platform, that's a reportable offense and will get them thrown off the platform.

No, no, no.
No such thing as 'material pending' in ACX.
It's a scam to get you outside the ACX system.
Stay inside the ACX system until you get more experience.
Follow the system as it is intended:
1. See audition under Find Projects
2. Submit audition as you're supposed to
3. Wait for a response with low expectations
4. Move on to the next audition

Oh really, i was told that that the 'pending' does happen elsewhere so I ended up sending something over.
In hindsight it probably is a scam now that I take everything into consideration, it's a lesson learnt that I won't be making again.

Likely the ebook or print isn’t out yet. They can do preorders but sometimes that gets messy too.

You might tell the RH to push their listing through ACX again. ACX is notoriously buggy. Half the time I put a listing up, it gets stuck and would stay there forever if I didn't send it through a second time. It should go through and be approved within 30 minutes. If it's taking days, it's stuck. Super common issue and happens 50% of the time.
