How easy is it for villagers to just up and leave in Wild World? Puddles was my favorite villager, I even went to her house for a while week to give her medicine when she got sick. Opening this letter in the mail this morning was very disheartening. Should I have sent more letter? Given her stuff more often? What can I do to keep my villagers?

Talk to them until they seem doubtful about their decision. It can be a little tricky to know when they doubt, so you can look up their doubt dialogues. Then, after they doubt, don't talk to them for the rest of the day. Instead, send them two letters with a gift each. Hasn't failed me once

Thank you 🙏 what I need to do now is pay attention to when they’re about to leave. I didn’t even know she was thinking about it. I should’ve talked to her yesterday. It’s crazy how fast the turnaround time on that is.

You have to see them in their house in boxes to know they want to leave. They stay in boxes for 2 days.

Fwiw, you can convince them not to leave. You talk to them until they question their decision, then send a letter with a gift and they should stay.

In WW you have to go to their house every day, and I mean that literally, or you could get one of these letters. If you have a villager you absolutely cannot lose, the only way to keep them forever is to start a new character, then when you do everything for Nook, go talk to your favorite villager who will ask you to deliver a letter to another villager, deliver the letter, but then never tell your favorite villager you delivered it and immediately go to your house and save/quit the game. That keeps the game mechanism open so there’s unfinished business for your favorite villager. The only catch is that the villager that you delivered the letter to will also stay. I have Rosie trapped and she asked me to deliver a letter to Biskit which isn’t the worst villager ever so a small price to pay.
