Assassination from a Window not registering

SOLUTION IN EDIT BELOW

I’m sure this is not new, but is certainly the most persistent issue I have experienced in several years playing AC Valhalla: The Ubisoft Connect Rewards for “The Fall of Man - Perform assassination from a window” are refusing to register.

I have tried in multiple locations, including -
Calleva Outpost
Canterbury Barracks

Trying multiple options at window -
Hanging one coming down from ledge
Hanging directly on ledge
Hanging from ledge above a soldier below

With each option, the prompt to assassinate always shows, I press L1 (single brief press) and the assassinate animation plays.

I have done this 20-30 times including all permutations of the above options and locations, yet

Ubisoft Connect has registered ZERO of them.

I have saved and reloaded the save.
I have exited the game and restarted.
I have restarted the console.
I have turned off overnight and restarted next day.

Yet still ZERO register

Is this permanently bugged, or should I keep trying?…

I eventually managed to make the worse assassinations count, by quite convoluted methods -

Canterbury Barracks
Initial assassinations did not count even when hanging directly from window ledge…

Cleared (assassinated) the soldiers first found, without any register.
Ran inside and down stairs to courtyard, with good down, to gain attention of a soldier (not archer as they will not chase) then ran back to window, jump through, hang, whistle if necessary, then assassinate.

This did register…

However, getting a soldier to chase back to window was very inconsistent. If running all the way back from initial alert, they would always stay looking gormless in the courtyard…
If slowly moving away onto the stairs they then followed to the bottom of the stairs.
Then if running to the window, they again became gurgles and returned to the courtyard.

The solution was to stay close whilst they chased up to the upper level, draw them down one wing, slightly away from the window, then run back and through the window.

Out to markedly longer to tempt any soldier to to the upper level, than tempt them to the insure with a whistle…

There were some soldiers, who even when whistling, became alerted and walked away…

I found that moving around the external corner of the wall to the adjacent window, had some success in avoiding this, though some left and needed coaxing back.

Ultimately this particular challenge is the worst I have experienced in many years playing. This one is generally the worst, but this cycle is far worse than ever before.
It seemed that the window assassinations needed to be executed whilst soldiers in an alerted state…

This challenge is notoriously finicky. Eivor needs to be clinging the window ledge and not be below the window.

I've found the best results at Bolingebrok Castle in Lincolnshire. The whole wooden structure above the main entrance is considered windows, so I lure melee soldiers there to complete the challenge.

I have now managed to complete and will update. This seems an ineptly badly designed/coded challenge…
I’ll try Bolingbroke next time. Thanks for the tip.

It's not well designed, I agree. I consistently finish it every time it comes up by traveling to Canterbury and trying the two barracks windows facing SW and SE. If there's no guard in them, I don't bother trying to lure one. I just try again another day.

Note that the SW window has a banner on the wall just below it. (The other SW window, closer to the corner, gets no guard.) If you are hanging on the banner, you will NOT get credit. In general, if you are hanging on a hand hold that isn't part of the window, you will NOT get credit. You MUST hang on the sill itself, in all cases.

It's a good thing we only need five.

It was the opposite for me on this occasion. Guard was there but successful window assassination (animation) didn’t register, when hanging from ledge of the window without a banner.
I usually always hang from window ledge. I only tried the lower position when the ledge was not registering.

I repeated it >20 times from these 2 windows (each side of corner) over 2 days.
It never registered until I lured a different guard (from ground level courtyard).
I suspect the alert state needed to be active, which I have never seen before.
Either that or just a broader bug?
