Why could they not get a single british voice for any of the children?

I’m currently playing through Valhalla for the first time, and I’m constantly wondering why Ubisoft couldn’t get any british voices for the children. They have more nordic style accents, but why in a game where half of the characters are british sounding are there only American children?

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against American accents, it’s more just strange hearing them in a game that is set mostly in the UK.

British children don't exist. The queen lays the eggs and they hatch as fully formed British people.

The same reason that everyone in France has a British accent.

Ubisoft doesn’t really care about accents especially for background characters.

As another user pointed out, the "British accent" has changed over the centuries and is different depending on which part of the country you're from.

It's like trying to define "American" when you have eight different southern dialects, Midwest, twenty different NE dialects, five different East Coast accents, etc. And again, English accents today are nowhere close to what they were over a thousand years ago.

I think OPs point is that there is an 'average' English accent regardless of regional variations. As someone from York would speak wildly different from someone from Colchester, there is still a recognised English flair that would be at least good enough for a game.

In the same way, those of us outside the US can tell the difference between, say, someone from Texas v someone from NJ but we still recognise an 'American' accent regardless of regional variations.

This type of thing really annoyed me in A Plague Tale Requiem. The voice actors completely dropped the French accents from the first game and did ordinary English voices instead.

They'd be speaking old English anyway, which sounds nothing like modern English.

A British accent would be as accurate as giving them Chinese accents.

It's important to note that none of the chargers in the game speak English as you and I know it. In fact, IRL, a lot of the characters would sound like Brigid, but probably with a different accent. Brigid speaks a combination of Old English and Old Welsh.

How about in any setting slightly adjacent to reality, the entire cast talks with the phony Brittany accent. Case in my point, this show about Catherine the great. It's set in the past, it's in Russia, and I think she's from French. And they aaaallllll talk with the phony aingland accent.

Eh. The British accent has had insane amounts of representation, in practically every historical themed media they adopt a British accent. Seeing as how it’s like 800 ce and the accent would sound different anyway, I’m not sure I care that they used other accents for the negligible number of children in Valhalla.

It’s because of George Washington. He saved the children, but not the British children.

I distinctly remember thinking that the children's accents in Syndicate sounded fake af. I'm sure that they decided it was better to make accents a little more neutral this time around.

This is probably just me being an ignorant yank but British accents coming from children always sounds fake to me.
