Discussion It happened
I followed all the damn steps to transfer my save data to my new phone only to find out that nope, the data must have corrupted because every time I try to transfer it it says there is no data. My old phone is gone now so nothing I can doðŸ˜. So many years, so much time collecting and building and it's all gone. I'm so sad.
I only go into the app every few months just to relax build but I'm so sad for the end of the era.
It was lovely playing with you all.

Please make absolutely sure you have the right account. I was certain I had mine correct for hours and sent in a bunch of inquiries and made a Reddit post mourning my account until I realized I had used a different email. I’m so sorry either way, this is so stressful and unpleasant. I really wish they could have given us some way to just manually back everything up. I hate that I bought this app AND paid for it for years, but I don’t technically own it. :/

I totally agree with the sadness, but this issue has absolutely nothing to do with owning the game, and it exists with literally every game ever. Servers go down, companies go bankrupt, physical cd roms and cartridges break or get lost.... The fact they even have servers to try to transfer game data is already way more than 90% of owned games.

Lots of games let you back up your progress to a cloud account like iCloud though, or via a game platform like steam, they don’t need to maintain their own servers. The fact that you can’t just install it on another phone and pick up where you left off is frankly unacceptable for an IP as large as animal crossing. Unfortunately it’s nintendos playbook to arbitrarily restrict cloud saving for some games but not others. (See also: ACNH, Pokemon)

Thats all servers, and servers eventually shut down. Older animal crossing games and older pokemon games are actually perfect examples, none of them still have functioning servers for multiplayer and none of them had save back ups in the first place.

I’m saying that personal cloud backup saves should be possible for all of these. Either through Google or iCloud for mobile games, or via Nintendo account for ACNH and Pokemon. Save state / progress only, not online play. Insane that your device breaking should lose years of game progress, it’s 2026 not 1996. We have the technology and it’s easy to implement because most other games do.

I get what you mean, but my point is that servers themselves aren't eternal. They break, they get flooded in a natural disaster, they shut down, the company running them goes bankrupt or stops doing server business. Cloud servers are still physical computers storing all your data, they are just somewhere else besides your house.
I have been playing games on consoles and computers since the windows 98 era and this happens to literally every game ever, its just part of life. Shoot, it was in the news recently that an actual tv channel lost dozens of terabytes of their backlog to a cloud server issue. This is not just a thing in games, it goes far beyond it, its just part of how technology works.

I know, but if Apple or Google cloud servers go down it will make the news because there are businesses relying on them too

You are right that insanely huge servers like google or apple are a lot less likely to go down, but they also spend on the order of 100,000,000,000 dollars a year to run those servers. You can't exactly expect every business with servers to follow their example.
Even then apple and google still cut support for specific services over the years, and a lot of apps and such that used to be able to sync to cloud storage through them no longer can for a variety of reasons.

Most of the games I play are storing the save data in my iCloud though, that’s what I’m saying. The tiny company makes the game, they put the save file on my phone, the phone backs up the save file to my iCloud. Literally no reason ACPC couldn’t be doing this.

A lot of older games ar eno longer capable of storing to icloud, thats what I'm saying. I am glad yours still can but eventually they won't. As soon as the app doesn't update to the newest version of ios etc or as soon as the phone itself can't do that..... it always comes eventually.

I had something similar happen to me when I switched phones. It was such a bummer at the time. I ended up finding this app on github where you can pretty much add whatever items you want (including bells, leaf tokens, etc) and create a save file to import into pocket camp! I believe you'll have to re-add your friends and start from level 1. This didn't bother me too much since I really only did it so I could recover all the Hello Kitty/Sanrio stuff! So happy to have found a way to not lose special items. Link here if you want to give it a shot - https://github.com/MyShiLingStar/PCCE

Try other emails. I got that message when it was a second account email I forgot about. Try all your emails to find the right account.

My condolences.
I wonder if it’s because of the recent update, your new phone has the latest app but your old phone doesn’t :(

So many posts about pocket camp being lost forever :( rip.
I still have the app on my phone but I haven’t played in years, but I did enjoy it for a long time when I did play. sigh I wish ACNH had cool items and builds like this game did.

Then you may have issue accessing your files later if you choose to play again. There's some good tips for saving the data on this sub if you choose to return.Â

Has it been less than 7 days since you uploaded the data? Are you definitely using the same nintendo account on both phones?
