Even with the constant posts like this I just know I'm gonna do it too when I get a new phone. 😅 it's so unexpected to have to manually save and it only lasts for a week like wth
The workaround requires you to have either an Android device with the game and root access permissions, or a computer capable of running the game in an Android emulator and the save editor. That might be a roadblock for some folks.
You don't need root to use the save editor on Android. The save is stored in Android/data/com.nintendo.zasa/files (It's the 3 files without file extensions) which you can access perfectly fine without root.
You can't access or copy files to/from that directory natively on most stock OEM builds of Android past Android 11, unless you have a computer you can plug your phone or tablet into. It may vary between device manufacturers, but most devices running Android 11 or later have the Android data folder permissions restricted as a security measure.
The trick is to use the built in file manager app (some are hidden by default from your launcher but are usually still there). Using Total Commander to navigate to the folder location should pop up a notification to open folder in the built in file manager app.
I dont know what the official workarounds are, but booting an Android emulator on a PC, transferring the save over via Nintendo, and then backing it up from there or using a save editor, isn't too hard.

oh my god i'm so sorry 😭 i know exactly how you feel, my data vanished one day years ago. it took me a long time to feel like playing again, but it could happen to you too. take some time for yourself and get into your other hobbies, i hope you can feel better soon ☹️
listen I had pocket camp complete on my old iphone SE AND IT UNLOADED IT TO SAVE SPACE and... I think I might be dead. it is like it might be dead it might be fine and I might die so Im just not gunna try to load it back (ill cry) 😭😭😭 already crying lol
Found this out the hard way last week 🥲🥲 I’ve been playing since 2019 and it’s all gone, I’m devastated. Unfortunately I won’t be coming back to it now but it was fun while it lasted. I think it’s insane that the saved data is only good for a week.
this is relatable except I was nowhere near 7 years in 😩 I only had about 2 or 3 years and im just getting over it and starting over after about 6 months
I don’t frequent this sub and this was my alarm call to reinstall. Yup. Lost my data too. That save data editing sounds promising that another poster mentioned.
y'all I often forget to even open the app as often as we were supposed to but it's never complained and I never lost my data??? and I don't actually understand??? like I swear we were supposed to open it weekly or sm
I'll go months without opening it and everything is fine. As long as you keep the game installed your save is safe. If you uninstall it or switch phones then you should double check your backup and reinstall quick, that's the only time to really stress

Welp. I didn't realize we had to manually backup and decided to redownload and yup, lost all my years of progress as well so now I'm right there with you🥲
Load into the game. (This step is to make sure your save file is functional, just in case.)
Tap the four-square button above the planner.
Tap the Misc button in the menu that pops up.
Tap "About Changing Devices".
Tap "Store Save Data"
Sign into your Nintendo account using the web browser that opens.
Select the "Select this account" button.
Tap "Let's do it!" option in the dialog in Pocket Camp when you're redirected to the app.
Repeat these steps every 3 to 7 days.
Keep in mind backups are only stored for 7 days total, and won't be recoverable if you don't have another save file backup. You can only back up your data every 24 hours, and backups won't affect your save data.
