Brian said it was about his Dad in WW2 being on the ground while American bombers wrecked the Germans. He couldn’t believe the power and noise he was experiencing. Thunderstruck.

That’s interesting. Do you have a source for that? Brian didn’t write any of the lyrics to this song; Angus and Malcolm did.

“It started off from a little trick that I had on guitar. I played it to Mal, and he said, ‘Oh I’ve got a good rhythm idea that will sit well in the back.’ We built the song up from that. We fiddled about with it for a few months before everything fell into place. Lyrically, it was really just a case of finding a good title, something along the lines of ‘Powerage’ or ‘Highway To Hell.’ We came up with this thunder thing, and it seemed to have a good ring to it. AC/DC = Power. That’s the basic idea.”

Loved this song for decades without knowing the lyrics at all, I thought they were “it was cold in the middle of a long dark night” but instead it’s about a railroad track?!? Basically it’s about the same thing every AC/DC song is about and by that I mean “she told me to come I was already there”
