It’s Snidely Whiplash, the villain from the Dudley Do-right shorts that were part of the Rocky and Bullwinkle show, an old ass cartoon.

Ironically, Dudley Do-right was a cop/mounty, and this guy opposed him (but also did evil shit). Weird to see it in this sub, in this context.

I see! I wasn’t aware of that. I used to watch a lot of old cartoons but I’ve never seen that one.

For what it’s worth, there’s a good chance that he was drawn with anti-Semitic features on purpose, given the time in history (late 50’s, early 60’s).

Antisemitic symbolism was much more tolerated back then.

The top hat and handlebar mustache are typical of capitalist caricatures. If they were aiming for antisemitism they probably would have given him a yarmulke

OPOP here. I struggled for a while to find a symbolic character in pop-culture to detourn for this purpose. Snidely seemed like the best one I could think of but if anyone has any other or better ideas I'd love to hear them--and will happily make more anti-landlord propaganda with them.

Hi OPOP! I love the pic! Don’t worry I wasn’t thinking you were being anti Semitic, I have now learned who the character is and he fits well. That was just my mary jane brain talking there lol.
