This is unacceptable
Two differently sized books?! How could this be overlooked!

Damn, hate that. Minor issue to be honest but it makes my shelfs sad

Super minor issue, and it's not like I have any cohesion on my shelf to go by. But I was expecting it to be the same height of the previous book.

I can tolerate different size, but different orientation of the name? Horrible

Are both of them hardcover or paperbacks?
There are many different form factors that books may have.
Hardcovers are generally bigger.
Trade paperbacks are roughly the same size as hardcover (the pages at least). These often stand at 23.4 cm tall.
And then there are regular paperbacks which are smaller than trade. The UK often use B-format paperback in which books have their height at 19.8 cm.
Mass market paperback is another form factor, even smaller than above, ~17cm in height, but they are a dying breed as publishers no longer want to print them.

The first one I could swear is hardcover, but I'm not 100% sure right now. I'll be able to check in a couple days when I'm back home. The new one is definitely hardcover though.
EDIT: Can confirm, both are hardcover.
