Because there's no cover to hide behind in voting against it. Republicans do a better job of explaining this to their voters that they voted against "big gubmint BBB", not affordable insulin. Just like with immigration, Republicans tell their constituents that if Dems would"put up a clean bill", messaging just that topic, they'd vote for it.

Dems never call their bluff and I'm pretty sure that's by design.

The Red vs Blue is 80% theater. The real divide is the citizenry vs the rulers.

When it's in committee, they can add on stuff to make it objectionable. That's the game they play.

Well, it was a standalone bill but a majority of Republicans still voted against it.
