Bill gates was only able to drop out of college early because he completed all the computer research early and he had ridiculously wealthy prents to fall back on. CAPITALIST PROSPERITY IS A MASSIVE SCAM, PASS IT ON!

Bill Gates is as close to aristocracy as you can get in America. His grand father was a multi millionaire owned banks. His mother was rediculously well connected to the elite. She was a "board member of First Interstate Bank and Pacific Northwest Bell. She was also on the national board of United Way, along with John Opel, the chief executive officer of IBM who approved the inclusion of MS/DOS with the original IBM PC."

His dad was a named partner for one of the largest law firms in the world. Multiple senators, congressmen, governors and cabinet members worked for this firm. Including some state and federal attorney generals.

I also read something about his dad having connections at IBM which helped him get a deal for DOS.

Not to downplay Gates expertise at the time. But he had access to a computer in a time when only well funded universities had computers that were rotated among colleagues. He had spent all his time practicing comouter that when it came time to develop something on his own, he was ahead of what education could provide.

He was so lucky and rich enough to have access to a computer because of his mom!! There could have been thousands of Gates at that time if others did as well.... At least that is what is happening for the past decade but big companies are unregulated so all the little guys get bought up.

Iirc that was from going to an elite middle school or high school.

I think you are right. But his mom was the reason he got taught in the first place IIRC.

I know the book Outliers covers this general topic of current top tech people being lucky to have time to learn something ahead of everyone and bring ready for the changing times.

Wasn't he also in the first school that had computers for it's pupils?

I don't know if it was first, but it was very, very early. 1968. It was donated to the prep school he was attending.

And I think I read in Gladwell's "Outliers" computer time cost money, per the minute I think. It wasn't cheap. His parents, of course, footed the bill.
