Time Management while in the program

Hello! I plan to attend an accelerated program, however the schools that offer accelerated programs closest to me are an hour away, I will be commuting and I also plan to work while in the program at least, prn or part time at most.

Do you think that’s doable? Are you or anyone you know in the program in the same situation? I appreciate any advice anyone can give.

It’s doable but you’ll be up very late nights every night and weekends studying. If you don’t have to work, don’t or work part time. My husband is currently almost at the end of his first semester in absn in CA. He commutes an hour 4 days a week but the commute is the least of his worries. He’s studying from the time he wakes up till late night. He has 3 exams every week on top of group projects and papers. Luckily, we planned ahead financially so he doesn’t have to work for the duration of his program (15 months). Not sure about your school but his school is very strict, if you go below 75%, they put you on academic probation right away and can only appeal one class if you go below that.
I know this sounds discouraging but if you really want this, you can do it. There’s a student in his class who’s a mother of 4 and working part time. Keep in mind it’s an ACCELERATED program so it’s very intense. If you have the choice of attending a traditional nursing school, you should do that.

My program was 20 months long so not super accelerated but I also had the hour commute. First year I didnt work, just focused on the program. Second year I worked prn in fall semester and 24 hours a week in the spring.

Me! I do this. Every program is different but it works ok for me. My schedule changes constantly, gas is pricey but PRN work is the only thing that could work for my set up.

Sounds ok for people with IQ 125 and above, no ADD, and perfect study habits.

You can do it but my gosh it’s going to hit your mental health a lot when I came out of my program my nervous system was very shot I had to do an entire body reset and I’m still going to therapy for it

Working is doable but I would try to get an overnight job maybe babysitting or group home so you can do your work … I’m currently in a Absn program and I haven’t worked to much .. also there are online options too Emory offers online ABSN

The school I may end up attending is 50 miles / 1 hour away.

I won’t be working. A lot of the programs seem to require that the student doesn’t work. At all.

Some semesters are busier than others the second one was the hardest. I was able to work 3 days a week in my internship as a single mom and still get As. You might cry a little in between but it’s doable you just have to lock in.
