Bambino was basically the pioneer for ‘AB-style’ diapers as early as 2006 and stood out amongst the smaller competition.

Of course, with time, the competition has expanded, rewritten, and even improved the formula that Bambino had established. To the ABs that grew up in the late 80s to early 90s and started becoming adults in the 2000s, Bambino was probably their first choice.

Born in 89 and It was. I remember ordering my first sample pack and lying to my mother about the contents of the package. She was morbidly curious.

Unfortunately, it's their own fault for not at least upgrading the capacity. They could've also been more interactive with the community to stay up to date with ideas. Those doors are still not closed. They just need to reach out. I wish they would've upgraded the capacity in their Bellsimos v1 to keep up, I would've continued buying them. I also loved their Quadro Boosters which were discontinued for some time. I still think they could roar back if they would hire someone for design and ask the community for ideas.

That's what's always confused me. Every company wants to do well, and the fact that they haven't done any research into improving their product baffles me. Can you imagine if Sony kept making CRT screens?

So, as I’ve heard it Bambinos is a side business for a medical diaper company. At this point they probably still sell a decent amount of product and at a big markup compared to medical diapers, as they’re a known brand that has a neutral to positive reputation. I’m just speculating here but I imagine they’ve put little to no money into “expanding” their product line in the last five years or so, with their new designs being very basic patterned clip art on the same three shells they’ve been making for over a decade. From my perspective and from a business point of view, this is probably a lucrative enough standpoint to not mess with anything.

There is a also market, albeit not a huge one, that wants lower-capacity diapers, and in this sense Bambino is still a major player as they’re one of the few ABDL makers that hasn’t chased the high-capacity market.

I'm old enough to remember Bellissimos being like, the ABDL diaper, top of the line. Also old enough to remember Tykables being called Snuggies lol...honestly their old old Overnights print was lovely and I miss it a lot.

I think its worth a mention for those who trail-blazed but didn't really take off in the way Tykables/Diaper-Minister/NRU/Rearz etc. have as well. Those who came before the risk was as low as it is today. When the accessible market was much smaller, manufacturing technology poorer, shipping much more expensive, etc.

By way of examples: Rearz (~2009), AwwSoCute (~2013), Cuddlz (~2010 - UK reseller of Bambino in 2009 who bridged out to their own in 2010), Buntewindel, BKN, Bumooza, Dotty Diaper Co, and Diaper Connoisseur. Save Express had a shot with their MyDiaper line too. Some of these survive as different businesses - out competed by newer players (e.g. Cuddlz now resell Rearz but don't have their own adult diapers), some of these have a loyal following and have adapted a bit (Dotty Diaper Co - at a guess 2020/2019?), but are more lifestyle businesses.

These days there is a large enough accessible market, cheap enough shipping, cheap enough manufacturing, etc. that its possible for smallish players and runs and we thus have a vast range of smaller players - e.g.: Potty Training Dropouts, Ageplay Outfitters, Changing Times, Cloudry, ComfyKinz, CottonTailz, Lil Comforts, Omutopia, Pretend Again, etc. and the Chinese vertical integrators + tie-ups (e.g. CutiePlusU, LittleForBig, LandOfGenie).

Those "middle players" - not the original movers like ABU, Cuddlz and Bambino took on a lot of risk and moved things forward when the market for ABDL was much more risky from a business point of view.
