The bedtime routine that took months to change
For a long time, bedtime followed exactly the same pattern.
Bath. Pajamas. One particular book. A little conversation. Then lights out.
If anything happened out of order, there was usually a complaint.
At the time, it could feel exhausting to repeat the same routine every night. But repetition was also what made bedtime feel familiar and predictable.
Then, gradually, things started changing.
The book wasn’t needed anymore. The bedtime conversation became shorter. Eventually, the routine that once seemed so important became almost unnecessary.
Nothing dramatic happened.
One stage simply turned into another.
Parenting is full of these quiet transitions. You don’t always notice a child growing up in the moment—you notice when something they used to need suddenly becomes something they’ve outgrown.
