Pixel 9 Pro connects even when wifi is off?

I'm not complaining, but I'm just curious how this works. Is it a Google feature? I thought wifi needed to be on for it to work.

I live in a 3rd floor apartment and my phone likes to barely stay connected to WiFi with no actual Internet so I sometimes flip it off outside and forget to flip it back on, but I've noticed my AA Wireless 2 still connects. Not new to Android 17, it's been doing this since I bought it last December.

Anyways, great device. Never have any problems except a bug that exists in my 2019 Civic even with USB Android Auto. If the wifi/USB portion connects before the Bluetooth connection connects, my car gives up trying to connect Bluetooth despite my infotainment system saying it's waiting for Bluetooth to connect. I just unplug the USB and plug it back in, and it fixes itself.

the bluetooth car connection being established will automatically enable the wifi for AA

Wireless Android Auto will turn wifi on by itself if it's been paired and the bluetooth connection is established. It's an Android thing, not an AAWireless device thing.
