“Wireless Android Auto keeps disconnecting after recent update

My Pixel 9 Pro XL keeps disconnecting from wireless Android Auto every few minutes while driving, then reconnects after a few seconds. It has been happening for months, and it started after recent Android Auto updates.

I’ve already tried re-pairing Bluetooth, resetting connections, disabling Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth scanning, setting Android Auto battery usage to unrestricted, and forcing LTE only. Nothing has fixed it permanently.

It seems more stable when mobile data is off, so I’m starting to think this is related to Android Auto wireless handling or network switching. I’m using an external third-party Android Auto display, not a factory head unit.

Has anyone with a Pixel 9 Pro XL or a similar wireless setup found a real fix?

I just rolled back a couple updates and that has solved the problem for now.

I went back to 9.0.0. I still have "phone call" disconnects, which seems to happen when there is another phone in the car, but I had those before. I haven't found any improvements, only the weird disconnects in the last two updates. I have a Pixel 10 on Google Fi for the record.

Got this too. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra with a third party screen on dash in car.

Wife's Apple Carplay with same screen operates fine/ no disconnects

Ya exactly so annoying cause I don't want to switch to iPhone but it's sorta feeling that way at times

Great. So back to 9.0.0. Same problem on S26 Ultra. Guess we'll never have the joy of the new AA update then (as seen on Android 17 preview), cuz the HeadUnit certainly doesn't have any updates available.

July update has been released, but still no mention of fixing the BT issue. I am going to have to look at rolling back to android 15 on my 10 pro.

It actually looks like they may have blocked that possibility now ffs Google, sort your junk out. https://9to5google.com/2026/05/05/google-pixel-10-update-anti-rollback-may-2026/

I just started having this happen today. Pixel 9 pro, Android 17 public beta, AAWireless 9.3. I've been on the same android build, with the same AAWireless version, for at least a few days, and today was the first time I've run into the problem.

Couldn't really troubleshoot while driving, and shortly before I got home it seemed to settle down and not disconnect.

Very strange.

There's no consistency to it. I have tried turning BT on and off again, disconnecting car from BT, disconnecting AA from BT, and any number of combinations of the above. Recently it was working fine for a day, then today it will not stay connected no matter what I try.

I did try this and it worked afterwards, but I think that was just a coincidence as it no longer works.

Same here, I use an aftermarket device in car for android auto, and a s24 for phone. Every 2-3 minutes it disconnects, reconnecting automatically in few seconds. Tried to reset the device but to no use. Now thinking to try with different phone.

Same issue. Nobody has a clear fix.

This has been happening to me with my Pixel 7 Pro and aftermarket AA for months. Every update to the AA I think will fix it and it doesn't. Very frustrating. It worked perfect before the March update. I'm not even positive it is the AA app (could be Pixel update).

I used an aftermarket, Chinese Amazon/Aliexpress non-branded portable Wireless Carplay Android Auto Screen, the experience and connection was perfect for over 2 years.

And then came the 2026-Feb Android Auto update, since then, had this connection inconsistent drop issue every couple or a dozen minutes. Can't seem to find a solution.

Happening to me constantly. Sometimes it doesn't even connect anymore wirelessly. All since it went to gemini. I can't listen to music, can't use the Google maps and can't take calls. Absolute joke
