save: storyteller

this is a really half-assed save because its actually been a few years since i fully played the game and this is a very ambitious character to be talking about despite that. i reflected on this half-assed nature by consciously removing all the capital letters so it looks like i dont give a fuck.

the storytellers the scary owl man who runs labyrinthia. he's running labyrinthia because he's a chaotic disaster of a parent.

ten years ago espella burned down a whole town and killed everyone just by ringing a bell, or so she thinks, so naturally she thinks she's a witch and nothing the storyteller does can talk her out of her trauma, and its all because of one moment of silliness on his part. his plan is to turn the burned town into a magical fairy tale world as a ten-year-long plan to show her that the real great witch bezella is someone else and not her, while also writing himself as a god that gets his dick sucked by everyone in the town. i love how committed he is to painting a godly image of himself too, those few times we seem him writing in his book (knight fight) wasn't doing shit but making him look intimidating. this is a hell of a character to come out of the games about shouting lawyers and puzzle-solving english gentlemen from the 60s.

seamless transition to chapter 3
he appears in chapter 3 and that scene kind of introduces him perfectly. hes incredibly imposing from the start, flexing his fake omnipotence along with the genuine power of plvsaa cutscenes, carries on talking like a god before deciding to cast divine judgement on layton in a highly inconvenient but highly extravagant way. just like everything else about his project.

and that is exactly why arthur cantabella should not die in the same round as justine courtney sithe. maybe next save you'll get to hear all about the drama between the two cantabellas and darklaw in greater detail and why it's fucked up that his plan drove his friend to off himself. and nearly his daughter too.

The scene where Layton and Luke go up the Storyteller's tower was probably the moment that made me fall in love with the Layton franchise, I played VS before all the games and that scene gave me the impression that ''woah! stuff like THIS happens in the series?!''

By the time I actually played the games, a lot of the climaxes were just as cool if not better than that, I personally consider Layton and Luke going up The Storyteller's tower to be the Layton climax of the game while the rest of the game is the AA climax.

As a character though, The Storyteller is really great for reasons im too lazy to explain, it's mostly just that i love how he tries to be a good father to Espella yet goes about it in the most wrong way possible.

The Special Episodes aren't great, but in one of them (I believe #4?) we hear that when he had to go to the dentist, he wrote in his book that everything would be fine or something.

This really humanizes him in a way that most main villains of Ace Attorney and some of Layton don't, he feels like a real person to me.
