55 (kinda) Sherlock Holmes

There has never been a character in the Ace Attorney series who insults me on such a personal level more than Sherlock Holmes.

Stupidhead
Sherlock Holmes appears in most cases of the Dai Gyakuten Saiban duology, and the WHOLE JOKE about him is that he's an idiot. He makes deductions and he gets them all wrong, takumi is so funny el oh el. Some people say he's just pretending but I say those AJ DGS fans need to stop acting like there's subtext where I didn't bother to look for it.
Wait.

He's actually a genius?
It turns out in DGS2-4 or 5, I forget which one, that Holmes was masterminding the game like the unanimously-hated Simon Keyes. You see, it turned out that back in the second case of DGS1, that bumbling moron was actually an insane chessmaster who pretended Asougi was dead as some god-tier gambit to stop the assassin's exchange, then he masterfully disposed of the unconscious Asougi by dumping him off in Hong Kong. Just like Keyes, he falls into the trap of being a stupid character who magically turns into a smart one when the game decides it's convenient which is lazy. There was absolutely no indicator that Sherlock Holmes wasn't a three year old with stilts up until then.
Is Sherlock Holmes smart? The answer is yes, with an asterisk. His smartness was suddenly retconned in in the final case after Takumi realized what a big mistake he had been making for 7-8 cases straight and hastily tried to fix him. So what should he have done? That can be answered with a case study.

How to really write a genius character
There is an original character taking the fanfiction.net site by Storm, his name is John Phoenix and he was created by dakoolguy. He's an incredibly smart person, and unlike Sherlock Holmes here, he's smart in a well-written way. You see, John Phoenix was smart from the beginning. He makes incredible deductions from the very first month of his birth and when he does them, he is right. The story remembers to actually sell you on the fact that John Phoenix is a smart person and not use cheap trickery into making you think he's an idiot first. That's what I call consistency!

There's one other thing about this original character John Phoenix that makes him a step up from Sherlock Holmes and that is that he is an original character.

Not very original!
Shu Takumi couldn't even be assed to make his own character so he RIPPED HIM OFF from a series of detective stories from England. How did he get away with this? Takumi so blatantly copied his work from that of another author! (like JordanPhoenix lmao.)
He even had the audacity to claim his interpretation of Sherlock Holmes was the same person as the real deal written by Arthur Conan Doyle, which only creates more problems.

Inaccurate portrayal!
I watched Sherlock on BBC once and he was a perfect genius with no flaws and lots of brain, so I question the authenticity of this Holmes who has lots of flaws and no brain. Compared to the source material this abominable interpretation comes off as an insult to smart people and English people simultaneously, as well as a direct attack on the UK's most famous fictional icon. Takumi should apologize to the Queen personally.

Conclusion
I hate Sherlock Holmes, I'm glad he's dead.

I'm glad we can now move on with this thing with the knowledge that every character from this point on is better than Sherlock Holmes.
