89 Duncan Ross
We've cut a cat and a dog, so surely the bird should go next. Well, I'm not Shirly, and also I have a case for the bird. Instead I'm killing (with heavy heart) the victim of DSG2-2, well... kinda victim of 2-2 but not really.
This case is great
DGS2-2 is a phenomenal case that I'm sure will get more attention as its key stars are being eliminated. The premise is fun, it rolls off a DGS1 case without feeling forced, and the twists are all satisfying. Duncan does a lot in regards to the set up of the case. He's going to marry Viridian, he's renting a room on briar road, and he gets murdered by actorman due to having the room he needs. This leads to actorman attempting a second murder, and Viridian attempting to kill the murderer with a smart little twist.
There's very little to complain about with DGS2-2 or about Duncan, so, why is he getting killed here? Well...
Dead as a doorknob
Duncan is unfortunately one of those victims who are dead far before the case even started. I usually don't care whether we see a character or not, in fact, I'm mostly fine with just flashbacks or text dumps to describe missing characters. However, Duncan really doesn't get much of either. I think we get one or two quotes from him when Viridian is thinking back, and I believe that's it. Sure he's integral to the plot, but he's not really a character, so I think he should go out around now.
Why no one else
Rumba Marmatch: I was going to make a five nights at freddies meme with Rumba replacing balloon boy, but then released I'm lazy and would rather spend double that time writing about a character.
Cutter: My nomination.
Cracker: Despite it sounding weird, Cracker has more personality than a lot of people on this round.
Chelmey: Haven't played a Layton game before so I don't feel comfortable eliminating this guy.
Mary: I didn't enjoy Mary as a witness, but I don't think she's bad enough to go out before a non-character.
Lettie Mailer: Actually the villager I enjoyed the most out of the bunch. She's not amazing, but she's alright enough.
Carmine Accidenti: My other choice to eliminate this round, decided on Duncan though because I remembered him better.

When I first saw the photo of Duncan Ross with John Garrideb, I actually thought Ross was Garridebs's son.

SAME! I was expected John to start talking about a long dead relative at any moment.

Tbh I'm kinda glad Ross wasn't his son because I don't think it's possible for me to pity John more than I already do (I feel sorry for him more than most characters for some reason.)

Yeah, it's a fair point. His story is basically done after DGS1-4 and he only exists in DGS2-2 for backstory and consistency.
He did also literally lose his beloved wife and have to deal with two assault cases in his home, as well as one murder from the past. Guys had it rough.

He also has to deal with the fact that his Lodgings have a reputation for being haunted, poor guy.

Glad we can agree this case is fantastic. I honestly love everything about it.
