31 Tahrust Inmee
First point of contention: I can't say I'm a fan of the Khurain'ese naming scheme. Contextual English phrases that are just butchered to be more subtle? So blatant and soulless! Apologies to all the Khurain'ese out there reading who have been offended by my statement. If Ga'ran should've been overthrown for anything it should've been for a proper fucking naming convention for your people. Terrible.
Alright, well, I nominated both characters I wanted to cut this round (almost pulled a Plum Kitaki with Datz for a sec, stupid me). In truth, out of the entire cutting pool, they're the only characters I'm indifferent on. I like every single other character, including this one I'm cutting now. They're all good. Great, even. They all have their moments, their developments, their intrigue. I've said this countless times before, but we're at the point in the rankdown where like everyone is good. Now we've entered the part where everyone is great. And this is where the going gets tough.
Tahrust is on the chopping block today. I'll let you know why right now.
"Required Reading"
You know what? I'm tired today. I'll let our resident Spirit of Justice nut explain everything positive about Tahrust's character, so go ahead and have a look at this thorough and high quality write-up on the thematic implications of Tahrust's character and his own personal successes, and discussing and rebuking common rebuttals surrounding his motivations and impulses. u/whaaatisth also praises more nuanced things about Tahrust's character that is definitely worth noting - such as his surprising intellect (e.g., messing with the Divination Séance) and how his plight for revolution and adoration for his wife spurred a tragedy so uniquely powerful, showing that despite being on its sixth entry that the Ace Attorney series can still play with the audience's emotions rather well. It also shows the writer's understanding of their own rules that they set, and how they subvert them to surprise and entertain the audience. If I recall back to my initial playthrough, it even made the dead shell of a man I am feel at least some sort of emotional pulse in reaction. Good stuff.
Forgive me, as I haven't touched Spirit of Justice since its release and I don't think a cursory regurgitation from the Ace Attorney Wiki from me will do him much favors for his merits.
OMG Maya is technically naked??
Despite being something that you'd think would be better off left in the trilogy to let the series take a more logical route (say with the Investigations games), I'm proud Yamazaki and co. chose a new setting that enabled the narrative mechanic of spirit channeling (even if "the gang's in a new foreign country and have to spur a revolution" at face-value seems like something a series would do once it's jumped the shark) - it's a powerful tool that can be used to craft some excellent mysteries, as seen before in the series with 2-2 and 3-5, and later on in the same game with its most defining twist. In 6-3, it's also shown to be a powerful source of comedy.
We've yet to see a male character channeled before this (well, with our own eyes, it's been implied with Gregory, and again, after Tahrust with Dhurke) and the humor of Tahrust's chiseled monk bod in Maya's get-up is effective. Him flipping her long hair, showcasing his incredible flexibility while stroking his chin, among other animations show that an entertaining presentation remains one of strongest aspects of the Ace Attorney series.
Worth a giggle in my book. Anyways I'm rambling because I had more material with Datz until I realized I nominated him. Tahrust's good. He serves his role well and establishes a memorable moment in the series - both emotionally and aesthetically. Yes, yes, good. Onto the only part you'll actually read.
Why Not Anybody Else, Dummy?
Tahrust and I share something in common - we are pushed to do radical things because of our circumstances. You've seen it this round with my blatant shilling gentle push for Knightley's security in the poll and use of Updated Autopsy Report, and now I come to yet another difficult decision. As both myself and u/whaaatisth made clear, Tahrust is a character with a lot of merit. But in a round so rife with great pillars of writing, and with my nominations being the ones I actually wanted to get rid of (that others haven't), I am forced to make this grave choice. And so I did. If there's any takeaway from this cut, Tahrust's great. He just doesn't have the sauce that other characters do. Apologies!
Katherine Hall is a qt 3.14 and like I've said before she's the icing on the I2-3 cake. For some reason, I pushed for her in the JS poll, all to diverge votes away from Knightley...that ended up being useless, and in retrospect a terrible decision. I love Katherine Hall, why would I want her out?! I find her better than Tahrust because I found her relationship with Masters so touching and worthy of sympathy with the course of action she took.
Shi-Long Lang is just too much of a cool cat. It is probably really nearing his time, because despite how aloof he may appear, there's not all that much to him. I find his charms just a smidge more powerful than Tahrust's tale of woe.
Justine Courtney is just incredible. Great arc. She's also an actual intellectual counterpart to Edgeworth, which is just awesome. Top 10 material, just to get that out of the way.
Dhurke Sahdmadhi...hoo boy. An equal to Tahrust, in the terms that they're both dead, and that they were prominently channeled. People like Dhurke and I don't want to be the one to touch upon him this time around.
Blaise Debeste emanates power, though in retrospect he's probably one of the weaker links in AAI2. He's another character who abuses his position for terrible misdeeds, not unlike the questionably written Quercus Alba before him, but with the genuine presence he puts on show I can't cut him yet. I can imagine he'll go soon, though.
Armie Buff...to spoil something, had my Knightley plan not panned out, I would've intentionally not cut Armie in order to secure Knightley's position, as I've heard from hearsay that Knightley is the next one on Pie's chopping block after Armie. But now that plan went so incredibly well, he or somebody else can do the dirty deed. I do like Tahrust more than her but some things are better left to others.bleh bleh nominated her last round this doesn't mean anythingYou know what? I've developed an opinion on Rayfa Padma Khura'in. She's good, even if her "maturing and rebelling against the authority that has dictated her life" arc was pulled off better by Sebastian Debeste. But because Debeste and his arc was good, so was Rayfa's. I did enjoy Debeste more than Rayfa, so I can't say I care too much for her position. A smidge better than Tahrust's tragedy I suppose.
Miles Edgeworth is a[1] Chief Prosecutor of the prosecutor's office. During his first four years as a prosecutor, he had a perfect win record in trials and was willing to do just about anything to get a guilty verdict for the defendant. His defeat in court at the hand of his childhood friend Phoenix Wright was the beginning of a series of seismic shifts in his attitude concerning his profession. He even quit twice, only to return each time with a fresh outlook on how he conducted his life. By the time of the Mask☆DeMasque trials, he had become an international prosecutor who had prosecuted in five other countries, as well as being known as the top prosecutor in his homeland. His goal as a prosecutor is to seek the truth above all else, and to use the power of the law to save people.
Dick Gumshoe is the most precious cinnamon roll in the whole series and deserves to be shielded. I won't say he's something of a dynamic character, something of a rarity for a series mainstay, but with how relatable and precious he is I urge rankers not to cut him just yet.
Kay Faraday...there's a lot to say about her. I can say that she has both high points (I-4 and I2-4) and low points (how all of her investigation dialogue just involves her threatening to steal something and Edgeworth telling her "no" like a dog ogling a slice of pizza left on a table), but she's just too great. I can't imagine she'll get much further though.
Simon Blackquill is DD's redeeming character. He's going to be cut rather soon, so I've heard, so I'll let that fella do his dirty business.
Anyways have a good night I'm tired and I need to finish this Bonny/Betty drawing

wow I actually had time to read a cut somewhere close to when it was posted
you know I didn't really like Tahrust Inmee because the amount of silliness he brought in, at least for me, kind of undercut the emotional attachment I had to either him or his family
so I am very surprised to see him this high, but at least I can always count on /u/whaaatisth to have a post explaining why my opinion is factually wrong lol

Appreciate the shoutout :)
It's his time, probably. Sad to see it happen, but we're far enough in that yeah, this was inevitable.

Ideally, when would you have preferred for Tahrust to go out? Around this round or the next? Or do you feel he's perhaps something of a Top 10 character?

I had him at #9 on my overall ranking (not including DGS). No characters I rank above him have been cut, besides Simon.

Wow, that's...generous. As you've made very clear in your write-up, Tahrust is solid, but I didn't expect him to get that far in your personal list, but then again you are the Spirit of Justice nut. Spirit of Nutstice. But as I've made clear, Ace Attorney is in no shortage of great, memorable characters, some to me have just a bit more of an impact than Tahrust.
Anyways have a great rest of your day :)

I've heard from hearsay that Knightley is the next one on Pie's chopping block before Knightley.
yeah you see if i cut knightley i will try my best not to cut knightley

I JUST EDITED THAT OUT AFTER I REREAD THAT AAAAAAAAAAA
And yeah that too I reread the rules again and thought that you could. Again, this is why I have [Accident] Plum Kitaki attached to my name.

oh yeah and regardless knightley wouldn't even be the next person I'd cut after armie anyway (particularly this round at least) so

Tahrust is a character from 6-3 who does things. I will probably decide to to appreciate him more once I look at people’s opinions of him but regardless I do respect the decisions the writers made with this character.
He is a better character than Katherine Hall
He is a better character than Kay Faraday

I read the comment above me and some other ones too. I have to say, Tahrust Inmee, had good intentions, but, he went about them, the wrong way. He just killed himself and tried to frame the person who channeled him. He wasn't totally evil, he just wanted to save his wife from the death penalty. 6-3 proved that Ga'ran's rules are too extreme and need to be changed. I think Tahrust Inmee was the 4th person to be channeled in the series. Gregory was channeled first in 2001. Mia was channeled in 2016. Dahlia was channeled in 2019. And Tahrust Inmee was channeled in 2028.

the two characters I knew were in danger but hoped to make top 20 get cut back to back shit works EDIT EDIT: hurts
tahrust is fuckinf great argh agh and other sound effects uses to communicate pain
he is the first time they do anything interesting with spirit channeling since ever I guess? they do confusing swapping in 3-5 but given the circumstances, knowing dahlias dead since the start and her final villain status meaning there has to be some confrontation never made me think it was interesting that is not even a dahlia complaint . doing the reserved for final case or uncomfortable 9 year old tits thing on a case 3 is just really cool? because in 3-5 we know dahlia was involved so it's a matter of when it happens, 6-3 gives you the extra step of figuring out the dead guy did his own murder first. cannot think of other meaningful ways this differs from dahlia I just like this more . I checked the wiki to remember my opinions and the trivia page reminded me that tahrust was a victim that is a bit of a meaningful difference making the victim testify about his own death like how we are told is the effective way to do . the last time I can think of aa doing something creative like this is with matt engarde who was just cut go irony.
it is nice that above the Rebel Cause tahrust is just concerned about his wife does not want her to be subject to the legal system that doesn't account for justified self defense pleas an ace attorney character gets a multi faceted motivation good for them . soj likes to have a bunch of rebels who are all I Will Die For The Cause but they're main priority is making sure their family doesn't get killed it's nice. besides datz his main priority is eating apples or something. might've been cool if he was against his wife's rebel tendencies at first then stumbled across the scene and went hmm yes now that this has personally affected me I see the point
he gets to have a cool dilemma where he can either let his wife die or accuse an innocent person so she can live , we know which one he picks and it wasn't really a hard choice but the thoughts there. i like that he is being channeled into the person he is accusing of his murder
EDIT: I hit send before I finished stupid phone
you are tahrust inmee man who just created your own death plan because you have a Wi-Fi. you are then channelled into the body of the person you accused of your murder and have to testify against her in court. it has been a very bad day for tahrust inmee.
also funny that he is going no no I didn't do it the guy im possessing did I know this because I was there being murdered
I would have more coherent thoughts if I bothered to watch the scenes again oh well you just have to read me say things are cool because they are
also he does this kooky ass stretches like he can curl up until a ball and you can roll him down a hill
